Do I get the insurance and then get her checked by the vet or the other way round

Which companies are good?

The new cat is quite young, I've had older cats recently and the ins was very high can I 'fix' the rice for her lifetime?

Are you adopting from a rescue? Many rescues will send their cats out with 4 weeks insurance, that covers them as soon as you adopt. Of course any known pre existing conditions are excluded, but you would still be covered for any new accidents and illnesses.

If you decide to switch to another insurer I would do it within 2 weeks of getting kitty. Most covers have a 14 day exclusion from the start of insurance, so you should still be covered on the 4 week cover from the rescue in the meantime.

And if you do switch, look for a lifetime cover rather than a budget insurance product. That means as long as you pay the premiums they will cover any long term illnesses ( up to policy limits). Budget covers often exclude the illness after 12 months, not great if kitty gets diabetes or long term issues.

I use pet plan, they are more expensive than some, but I’ve not heard many major issues with them, and they are underwritten by a large well known insurer. I’ve heard horror stories from some of the newer, smaller pet insurer providers.
