Brexit affecting cat food?

Doggley · 14/03/2021 10:31

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to get my cats' food. They have Hills z/d wet due to various health reasons. Can't find any anywhere. I noticed yesterday that cat food supplies in the supermarkets were looking sparse too. What's going on?

Your not imagining it. Apparently the shortage will last until the end of the year.
I've had to switch my cats cat food to whiskas, only one I don't have issues sourcing.

There's another thread somewhere talking about this. I think it's affecting food made in the UK too so possibly covid? It's true that things are a bit sparse and have been for months.

Pets at home has a message on their site about shortages too

HunterHearstHelmsley · 14/03/2021 10:42

Isn't the shortage due to more people buying pets over lockdown?

Doggley · 14/03/2021 10:45

@dementedpixie you superstar!! Thank you sooo much.

Never thought we'd get to this.

You're not imagining it - there's another thread about it somewhere too.

I've had to switch mine to a different brand - they used to be on Felix but I couldn't get any kind of Felix whatsoever in either Tesco or Morrisons last week. They're all on Webbox now and thankfully seem to like it!

Sainsbury’s said it due to rising pet ownership = increased demand. Production is increasing apparently, but it takes time to feed through the supply chain. (Pun a happy coincidence).

Yes sales are up 20%, manufacturing is working flat out but still can't meet demand at the moment, but I believe production is expanding so it should be a temporary shortage.
