On you tube is a documentary called crazy cat ladies real stories and one lady on their has 3 cats another has 16 the other two are just cat hoarders and cat nappers. It got me thinking how many cats are too many?

I have 4 and I don't think I'd want another. 4 is perfect for us. They have their own room where their trays and food are so they can escape the children

I have one at the moment would love another one or maybe two more..for me they make a house a home.

I have never seen a anyone ask how many dogs are to many?. People look at you with sympathy or horror when you have cats and have a completely different attitude towards dogs.

I think four is an elegant sufficiency.
However there does seem to be rather a lot of cats in the living room during the evening.

I have 2 indoor cats aswell as a dog. Between them and the kids i think thats enough. The house doesn't feel big enough for any more and i dont want to upset the balance. The girls get on but arent overly close. Ones bit of an upstairs dweller, the others glued to my lap constantly and they both sleep on my side of the bed at night. Im primary carer so the animals glue themselves to me and it makes velcro cat feel put out, she just about manages to share my lap with the dog on the evening without getting too upset about it🙄

Two is my absolute maximum. Currently have just one, and he's a happier, more vocal cat since our old boy died a few years ago. I don't think I'd have more than one at a time in the future.

As for dogs, always two. They enjoy the company of their own kind and really benefit from having a friend.

I have 2 dogs and until recently had 4 cats. A little over a month ago I took in a cat a person said they did not want and I was told he was difficult. He is not difficult at all he is affectionate and playful. He used to be put out in the freezing cold every night and she would not let him in. Now he loves to sleep in the kitchen in a basket with the underfloor heating on for the cats. My other cats are not keen on him yet though. He hisses at them sometimes I have to keep him in laundry room for part of each day then rotate him in lounge with other cats. He is improving so hoping in another month they will all rub along together. He will be allowed out into garden soon once I am sure he can find his way home. He will go out with a lead in garden first to sniff it out.

My greatest number of cats was four and it was too many but back then vets were affordable. I could afford to look after them all well.
Now although I am a professional with my own house and everything I can only afford one cat and still go on the odd holiday and afford clothes and food.
The expense of a cat now is huge, the insurance, the vaccinations, the check ups, medical care, dental care which isn't covered by insurance and decent food. I won't feed my cats stuff like felix. I can only afford to care for one cat properly now.
Buns cost my insurance company thousands in her old age and the premium increased to £100 with a big excess.

My brood are very close. Only 2 are related, one has been aided by the time I got her at 8 months. All rescue ❤️

Two is plenty for me as my house is tiny and my insurance premiums are huge!

DaisyandIvy · 11/03/2021 11:41

Two right now. My mum had 5 at the same time a few times over the years which was OK. She couldn’t say no to a cat in need of a home and I’m the same. Think 5 would be maximum for me personally.

Don’t you just adore cats though? I love them.

A lady who lives near my has about 7 dogs. Mainly grey hounds! Someone called the rspca on her but they are always brilliantly behaved and lovely and healthy looking.

If I won the lottery my house would instantly turn into a cat sanctuary and I'd never go out Grin

I have 3 😊 sisters who adore each other most of the time and fight each other the rest of the time. Not having any more tho 😊
