Bored kittens - suggest some toys please

I have two 5 month old Tonkinese kittens. They have so much energy and I think they can’t wait to get outside. Their favourite toys are wands with worms/feathers. I think they are getting bored especially now the kids are back at school.

Any good ideas for new toys?

Large paper bag and crumpled ball of foil. Get one kitten to chase the ball into the bag, other kitten will then pounce on kitten in bag, repeat as they swap roles.

Laser pens are really popular.

Cardboard box with an extra couple of holes for ambushing other cat. Like a cat fort.

Flipping fish - from amazon.

TaraR2020 · 11/03/2021 00:02

I have one cat that adores scrunched up paper best of all and another who is a devoted hunter of bottle tops.

Jingle balls have also always been successful.

Always found that a pair of kittens are usually happy to play with each other but there are loads of automated cat toys now you can buy where they chase balls through tunnels etc.

Cat games on YouTube on an ipad or phone also work!

sneakysnoopysniper · 11/03/2021 01:53

Electronic ball (Amazon) which wanders around at random a bit like those robot cleaners. It will encourage the kitten to watch, stalk and then pounce. It stops after 10 minutes so as not to over stimulate the cat but if you hit the button on top it will begin again. Charges via a USB in about 20 mins. I bought one for my nephew's cat and he loves it. He quickly learned to turn it back on by pressing the top button with his paw. When the ball wont go any more he pushes it to a human and meows until you charge it up. One smart cat!

Little jingle balls, a cat tree for climbing with dangling balls on, a cardboard box, a cat tunnel, a mouse with cat nip in. I just buy a mixed bag of cat toys off of Amazon. Most of all they like someone to play with them. My cats love their cat trees the best.

Ping pong balls.

redpandaalert · 11/03/2021 05:50

Have ordered a flipping fish and an electronic mouse so hoping that helps. They have a very tall cat tree, we’ve made numerous tunnels as well as having some pop up ones, they are bored of scrunched up paper and balls. They seem easily bored and really don’t sleep that much. They start getting destructive when bored, we were warned by the rescue centre that Tonkinese are high maintenance. We are experience cat owners and they are gorgeous bu bonkers. Kids going back to school means far less available entertainment.

Definitely look at getting cat tunnels. Mine love them and spend hours playing in them.

Mumdiva99 · 11/03/2021 07:11

My kittens favourite is a plastic dart bullet from a toy gun (not a nerf bullet as they chewed and ate those).
The other kitten likes a small ball which is hard enough to bounce but soft enough she can pick it up.

DeathMetalMum · 11/03/2021 07:20

We have like a ball run which ours like to play with. Added bonus it's enclosed so the ball doesn't get lost.

Big empty card box box, cut them a cat flap door into it and some little windows. They’ll chase each other in and out and also lie in wait in the house to swat anyone passing with a paw through a window!

Feather on a stick toy. Can also be used in conjunction with the card box house.

Flicking balls of paper round the room for them to chase.

soddingkitten · 11/03/2021 07:29

We have a Siamese boy who will be a year old soon. He loves the feather on a stick (like fishing rod) toys but human intervention is required. Also cardboard boxes, partially closed is best, and scrunched up paper balls.

Yours will improve once they can go out.

Please, pretty please, can we have some pics of your Tonks.

pomacentrus · 11/03/2021 07:30

Bird feeder outside near a window they can watch from

beginnerwitch · 11/03/2021 07:31

Mine is obsessed with small spiral hairbands. She has loads of toys but ignores them for a hairbands. They fly across the tiled floor really well.

violetbunny · 11/03/2021 08:08

Mine love elastic hair ties

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2021 08:10

Another vote for the laser pen. I have toy mice dangling from the platforms of their cat tree, on long elasticated cord.

IF you can trust them not to eat them, and carefully supervise, large thick elastic bands (like the posties use) really get Girlcat going throwing them about the room, catching them, killing them etc. You need to put them away when unsupervised though, as if they do eat one it can be pretty serious.

Weedsnseeds1 · 11/03/2021 08:14

Mine likes hair ties (as PP)
Loose feathers, particularly pheasant
The fluffy catnip toys that squeek when you hit them
Lolipops (the ambient Swizzles type) as they roll unpredictably when attacked
Wine corks
Cellophane

Any photos OP? Smile

Our fail safes are a laser pen and a remote-controlled snake. Our kitten has a love/hate relationship with the snake - sometimes it's his friend, other times it's like an irritating younger sibling. But he's always intrigued by it.

changi · 11/03/2021 08:23

I bought all kinds of toys but his favourite is a bit of string.

The laser pen amused him for about ten seconds. He seemed to lose interest when he realised it wasn't 'real'.

samlh · 11/03/2021 08:23

Mine loves simple toys like jingle balls and feathers on a stick.

He also loves the Catit Tumbler Bee (it's a bee on a stick attached to a ball that moves when you turn it on) and also the Kong Purrsuit Whirlwind Cat Toy.. He loves anything you have to chase about :)

Crappyfridays7 · 11/03/2021 08:34

I’m surprised with 2 they aren’t just running about and sleeping. My 2 girls amuse themselves mostly when not coming for cuddles. Tilly loves our puppy and the 2 of them are great friends. Tinkerbell is more of a people cat and loves climbing the clothes airer and sleeping above the radiator. They have some little cat ball bells but scrunched up paper, boxes - tinks loves a cardboard box the Diet Coke ones are fun as one gets in and the other pokes it’s paws in the top - that was the game yesterday anyway. I wouldn’t buy stuff make it and improvise. They also love elastic hair bands and throw them about & run about carrying them in their mouths it’s a crazy house here sometimes. Enjoy your kittens, ours def provide us with lots of entertainment

Bargebill19 · 11/03/2021 09:09

Ooo cat tax needs to be paid for all these ideas!

Arrierttyclock · 11/03/2021 12:59

Tinfoil! My kittens favourite play thing is a ball of tinfoil wrapped as a ball and he just chases it round for hours

CatRamsey · 11/03/2021 13:04

Haven't RTFT so apologies if it's already been mentioned, but puzzle feeders are great to keep cats entertained and gets them to engage their brain too. You put treats in the puzzle and they have to try and get them out. Cats like to hunt for their food even if that is just hiding a treat somewhere Smile.

Also you forgot to attach a picture. Wink
