Cat come home with bloody ear

Hi everyone,
My cat has just come home with a bloody ear.
He seems ok in himself (he went back out as soon as I tried to clean it for him).
I have major anxiety and I worry about what could have happened to him.
I live alone and I would be completely lost without my cat. It scares me!
(This is the first time I have owned a cat.)
Should I take my cat to the vet?
My cat is four years old and a rescue cat. I have owned my cat for three and a half years.
Thank you so much for any advice.

Can you post a photo?

If he's otherwise bright and well in himself and it's just a scratch then clean it with a bit of warm salty water.

If it's shredded or bitten he probably need antibiotics/anti-inflammatories and should go to the vet tomorrow

I would ring the vets out of hours for advice, your cat may need an antibiotic injection. I'm sure he will be fine though, cats get in to all sorts of scrapes and seem to bounce back. One of mine has a tear in the top of his ear, no idea how he got it but was completely unbothered by it, same cat also came home covered in fox poo and needed a bath which he hated. My other cat got a thorn in her eye once! And needed an operation but was fine.
My cats are lovely but stupidGrin

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.

I tried to clean Leo's ear and he ran straight out again! He has since been outside (just in front of the house) with his friend.

I went outside with some Dreamies which Leo ate.

I think Leo has been going somewhere different. He came home with mud on his ear and fur last week.

I worry about him incessantly. I get so scared!

Thank you again and much love to your cats. xx

Op if you're worried then ring your out of hours service. They can give you advice over the phone, but try not to worry too much. Cats are tough

My cats get in lots of fights and they tend to recover well enough by themselves. The worst that has happened is a hidden wound turning into abscess which the vets gave antibiotics and an anti inflammatory for. If you're really worried, take him to the vets tomorrow and they might well give antibiotics to combat any bacteria turning it nasty. If he's feeling poorly though, he'll let you know!

Leo has just been in to refuel before promptly going back out before I could look at him.

(He cleared his bowl!)

Thank you all again. Your posts have really helped me.

I wish I did not have this anxiety...
xx
