Cat suddenly walking weird

Hi just thought I'd ask if anyone might know what this is.
Tonight/today I've noticed on and off my cat is walking funny, he is doing a kind of crouch when he's walking- hard to explain. It's like he's sort of bending his back legs while walking so it looks like he's crouching while walking along. It's on and off, he's been jumping fine and going upstairs etc but obviously this is new and pretty strange! He had a steroid injection a few days ago for allergies, since then he hasn't ate a lot and he was sick yesterday but otherwise fine in himself. I'm going to get him to the vets ASAP but just wondering in the meantime if anyone might know what's happening with the sudden strange walk

Thanks

I have seen my cat do a similar walk occasionally after using the litter tray if there is still some poo hanging off her bottom. She does it to try and wipe her bottom on the floor... Could it be that?

Enidcat5 · 07/03/2021 22:19

How old is he?

stardust40 · 07/03/2021 22:21

Sounds like the walk ours do if they are scared? Could something have frightened him?

elsaesmeralda · 07/03/2021 22:31

He's nearly two. Goes outside so no litter tray and don't think it's anything to do with poo as he's just been doing it and he's been in for the night a while now.
The only thing I can maybe link it too is about 6 months ago he may have been hit by a car, came in shocked and with a limp, vets didn't X-ray him though and he recovered well. Has been fine since, this is a sudden change.
I've been googling and what I've found what he's doing is called "walking on hocks" so like he's walking flat footed rather than on his back paws

Can you video him doing it. Might make it easier for the vet to decide on treatment.
Hope he’s ok.

Could you ring the surgery in the morning. If you’ve been googling walking on hocks you’ll have seen it can be a symptom of diabetes.

Enidcat5 · 07/03/2021 22:56

Very difficult to guess what's happening without seeing him. Vet is best, so great that you're taking him. Could be fear posture but also could be sign of pain or discomfort. Vet will check him over for any sign of pain or illness and advise from there. I hope he's OK

elsaesmeralda · 07/03/2021 22:57

Yes I will call them tomorrow. And yeah that's the main thing that comes up is diabetes, I do hope not, the poor thing didn't have a great start in life feel bad for him

So he's still doing it, is fine in himself otherwise. Have got an appointment booked but they didn't seem overly concerned on the phone so not expecting them to do much to be honest
