Kittens first time out

Today is the day! She is 8 months old and we've had her since August. Not let her out before today. I'm a nervous wreck! But she's having a whale of a time in the garden at the minute. Sniffing and jumping at every new sound

Argh this was meant to be in The Litter Tray

Hello, @LST - don't worry; we've shifted your thread over to The Litter Tray now. Hope that helps!

Well - pix? Grin

Ooh do keep us posted how it goes.

My 8 month old has just been neutered but in a week or so she will be starting to go out and I'm a bit nervous about that too!

Prestel · 28/02/2021 12:38

Hopefully she'll spend a few days exploring the garden first before she heads further afield, although as long as she had a good sniff around the door on first going out she will know her way back, so try not to panic if she goes over the fence. It's lovely to see them enjoying going out for the first time but I agree, it's hard not to worry to begin with, even when you've had cats before and know they'll be fine.

She has now ventured out the garden to the 'backs' loads of over grown grass and weeds. Turns out she can't jump back into the garden so I've had to prop a fence panel up! Haha.

It won't let me post a picture!

Funnily enough its our kittens first day out today too, almost 8 months old! It's gone very well, returned for lunchtime. However, he now wants to go out all the time!

Same here! I nipped out earlier and got her in. She's been yowling at the back door since I've got back! I'll let her out again tomorrow I think. I do have 2 other cats that come and go as they please. I can't wait to be able to relax with her being out 🙈

@LST its funny how quick they go from being scared to go out to complaining. We're going to let him out for a while each day just before meal times for as long as we can get away with. I have a feeling he may go quite far before too long.

LST · 28/02/2021 22:17

I might send her out completely hungry tomorrow and keep rattling the dreamies tub. Today it was about 3 hours after a pouch

Yes do it before meals, as I found he has been ignoring the dreamies until he's ready to come back.

Colin is 8.5 months old and had been going out on his own for a week now up until now he has had supervised time outside

Your Alcatel should soon learn to climb back in the garden, Col can jump up onto a 1.8 metre fence happily now. One of the reasons we let him now go free range
