Fostering a cat

I've arranged to foster a cat and he's being 'delivered' tomorrow! I'm excited but a bit apprehensive.

I've owned cats all my life so am pretty experienced. We currently have 3 of our own, two girls and a boy. The foster cat is a boy called Reggie (our boy is Ronnie Grin) who has been in the local shelter for almost a year. He was found with a terrible wound on his neck and it's taken until now for it to heal as he caught MRSA. Apparently he's a lovely sweet tabby boy, around 3, and gets along with other cats no problem.

We've got plenty of space at home so I'm going to let him have one of the bedrooms and keep him in there for a while away from the others. I have no real worries about the girls - one is 14 and so laid back she barely bats an eyelid at anything new, and the other is young and playful and loves exploring new things. The only one I'm slightly concerned about is Ronnie - he's a big ginger oaf that spends his time ambushing mice and rats but is also scared of his own shadow. He's fine with the girls and plays with the younger one, but the only time I've ever seen him with another male is one from down the road and then he goes into a big yowling session.

I've spoken to the shelter and we've all agreed that we will foster Reggie and just see how it all goes. If any of the four cats cannot tolerate it then they will be happy to take Reggie back to find a better arrangement. I really don't want to have to give him back but I guess this way we have that option if it doesn't work out.

I really hope it works, Reggie has such a sad face and all the volunteers at the shelter love him so I think he has a lovely nature. I just want to give him a chance at finding a loving home with us lot.
