Cats flabby bit under tummy

Does anyone else’s male cat have like a pouch under their tummy? It wobbles a bit when they move? Does it mean they are overweight? The vet has never mentioned it, my cat is coming up to 2 and I just wondered why some cats have it and some don’t!

Ginger boy has one, black boy hasn’t but he’s a lean mean mini black panther machine and one wouldn’t dare to appear on his body plus he’s only 18 months it may yet appear. He does appear like he is trying to hex you every time he walks into a room. Tortie girl is rather rotund her flabby paunch is definitely filled out bless her.

All my cats have it. I like to stroke it but a few of them aren't keen 😁

None of my cats have this (even tubby tabby!) but it reminds me of our first family cat. He was rather rotund and was low-slung - my dad nicknamed him 'Flora' ie 'Low, fat spread' Grin

Both of mine have this, one of them has a little bald belly and when he sits down, it kind of gently folds towards his toes, like a penguin pouch! He also has a cleavage (of a 90 year old tortoise-man Grin) TroysMammy.

Have you ever seen photos of cats sleeping on glass, taken from underneath? They look like furry pancakes.

“Helps them stretch out for those long jumps. Evolutionary not appetite based.”

Ginger boy has this and can jump up on top of the fridge. White skinny boy hasn’t and had never been able to jump on to the fridge yet (he is 4), I don’t think he will ever be able to. GrinGrin

We called it the sporran.

Boycat's number one favorite thing in the world is for me to gently stroke & squeege his pouchy bit. Girlcat, who has a somewhat smaller one, can also be very fond of belly manipulation.

Bargebill19 · 26/02/2021 08:59

Thank you one and all for a glorious thread!

I will be using ‘the cats trousers’, ‘sporran’ and ‘belly manipulation’ in family conversations, thus confirming my mad cat lady status. Thank you!

One of mine has a lovely flump section. It matches mine.

My tabby girl has it but the other one doesn’t

Aw my favourite part of cat!

Despite being a very healthy weight Ivycat has a magnificent pouchy bit. I sometimes get to touch it but no more than 2 strokes allowed.

Betsy at is still very small but extremely fluffy so may be hiding a little pouch. You DO NOT EVER touch Betsy's tum unless you fancy losing a finger or two.

Ours both have puggage, and blissfully, both enjoy having it ruffled. I can confirm that it is the absolute softest and warmest part of a cat.

Colins is developing nicely

Which is a good job as he loves jumping and climbing

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/02/2021 12:42

We used to call it the bulgy bit.
