Cat with conjunctivitis

Hello

I noticed on Friday that my cat's eye was looking a bit sore/swollen but nothing too bad. Thought my other cat had scratched her or something.
Over the weekend it started getting watery and then suddenly it was both eyes.
Booked her to vet's as soon as they opened yesterday and they said she had conjunctivitis.
She's been given eye drops, metacam and the dreaded cone of shame.

Been using the drops since yesterday lunchtime but she is looking worse now, there is puss coming out of her eyes. Of course it could be that she was just wiping it off before she had the cone.

Has anyone's cat had an eye infection? How long did it take to get better?
And is the cone really needed? Poor thing is so uncomfortable with it on, constantly trying to scratch her ears and she can't groom herself either.

She's an indoor cat, well she goes out to our garden in the summer but not been for a while.

On no, I’d ring the vets first thing that can’t be right surely?.

One of mine gets it so often I just buy drops over the counter.

What happened with the cat in the end?
Mine has the same thing today. Yellow puss and a bit swollen. Will have to leave until Monday I would have thought. Can I buy anything over counter?
