Vaccination cost

Daffodil29 · 23/02/2021 10:53

I have recently acquired of two cats, a rescue and one our friend couldn’t look after anymore.
I have booked them in at the vets to get some flea/worm treatments. They want me to take them for an appointment, to weigh them I think. The rescue is also booked in for his initial injections at the same time.
I get quite anxious on the phone and I forgot to ask how much it will cost. I haven’t insured them (yet) as it says they need to be vaccinated to be insured.

Any ideas how much it will cost for:
2 x flea and worm treatments
General check-up and weighing
Initial injections?
The money is not an issue, just wondering what to expect. Thank you. 🐈

Flea and worm treatments would be about £8 - £10 each and the vaccination course would be around about £30-£40 at a guess, plus consult fee (about £20?). A lot of vets do monthly payment schemes to pay for preventative care, though, and these tend to be around £13-£15 a month and it's a great way to cover flea, worming and vaccination costs. If your vet does a similar scheme they'll probably offer to sign you up at the first visit. If they have a website it might be worth checking it before you go to see if they offer something like this.

Mine have an annual "MoT" and their jabs done at the same time, and I think it costs around £80-£85 per cat, though that includes 3 spot on worming/de-flea per cat.

Allergictoironing · 23/02/2021 18:06

Meant to say - that's with separate visits for each cat, as taking both at the same time is virtually impossible as once one is caught & caged, the other runs.

I think Prestel is posting from 1980 Grin Although correct about the health care plans, they're usually very good value and are just a way of spreading the cost of all the routine stuff.
Full vaccination course plus health checks more like £100 each. Flea and worm treatment around £10 per month per cat. You could always drop them an email and enquire about prices.

nickyschof · 23/02/2021 18:19

@Moriparty. £40 is the cost of vaccinating a new puppy around this way (Yorkshire). Op, If you have a Vets4Pets around you, they do vaccination for life for £99.

We took a kitten to be vaccinated recently. First course was approx £70 for one jab and follow up a few weeks later.

It may be worth looking at a monthly plan as we got ours half price due to this and a free microchip

Daffodil29 · 23/02/2021 20:33

Thank you so much for your replies.
Looks like they do have a monthly plan which is £14 a month per cat. That includes flea and worm and vaccinations. I will give them a ring tomorrow if I get chance to ask about prices and if that would be a cheaper option. Emailing them is also a good idea, thank you. Smile

My cat went to the vet last week.

Annual injections.
1x flea treatment ( Bravecto)
1x worm tablet (he has half every 3month)
Check up, weigh and teeth etc checked.

£100

Vinorosso74 · 23/02/2021 21:32

I pay about £7-£8 per worming tablet from our vet. For flea treatment (Stronghold) I get a prescription from vet for 6 months worth and buy online for around £40 inclusive of the treatment and the vet prescription fee is £12ish of that. I can't remember the vaccination cost.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/02/2021 22:39

Actually @Prestel is posting prices similar to our vets 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Daffodil29 · 26/02/2021 17:25

Thanks for all your responses. I gave them a call today and thought I’d let you know the prices they said.
2 x flea and worm treatments = £20/month
General check-up and weighing = no cost
Initial injections? = £62.50 for one cat.

@Prestel - they use the healthy pet club which is £14.39 a month so definitely makes sense to go for that! Thanks.

I'm glad I was of some help, if a little optimistic on the individual prices judging by some of the other posters (although I may have confused some people by trying to separate out the cost of the jab from the vet fee so £30-£40 plus £20 = £50-£60 for the vaccinations, not just £30! Grin). I've been paying monthly for my two cats for a while now, so couldn't quite remember. It really is a good way to spread the cost of all the preventative care and they send e-mail reminders when treatments are due which is really helpful when you've got more than one cat you need to keep track of!

I took my cats ( 2 adults ) yesterday

Vaccines
Flea drops applied and a course for home use ( 6 phials)
Worming tablets x 2

£140 ish .

The female cat is now sulking on her chair , the male is outside showing off his greasy little neck Grin
