Does your cat like you to chase them?

My cat often behaves towards me like I'm another, large cat. He will arch his back and tail to try and look bigger or hide and pounce on me. He likes it when I hide round a corner too. And he loves me to chase him around, inside the house and outside too. He will race off and then come back to be chased again. Just wondering how common this is? He's 5.

I realise this might sound like my cat is terrified of me, I promise he isn't, he loves it!

I did this with my last cat right up until she died at 15 and my new kitten loves this too

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2021 10:36

Mine are far to lazy for that!

TroysMammy · 21/02/2021 10:42

Haribo has rare moments. When he's in pounce mode I slowly say "I'm coming to get you" and he races off.

TheGonnagle · 21/02/2021 10:43

Only if we’re in the garden. And then yes. It is very important that I pretend to be gardening so he can come and inspect what I’m doing, then charge off looking over his shoulder to make sure I’m chasing him. He’s mental.

QueenPaw · 21/02/2021 10:50

Sometimes. If I say "boo" or "you've got.... FLEAS" (he hasn't!) he shrieks at me and runs off HmmGrin

Mabelface · 21/02/2021 10:54

Oh god yes. I've actually left a long patch of grass as that's his favourite hiding place. My daughter plays chase with him around the churchyard at the back of my house. He also hides in the house, under blankets etc and meows for me to find him.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/02/2021 11:35

Yes, you have to say “I’m going to get you!” In an irritatingly high pitched squeal too, Or “it’s time for TICKLES”.

If you don’t chase them they come back to see what went wrong.

Ilikecurrybest · 21/02/2021 11:39

We have 2 cats - they regularly play hide and seek with each other like this (until one forgets and falls asleep)

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 21/02/2021 11:42

That sounds like fun. Spongecat is too old for that malarkey, and probably lazy too, but if we are outside, she does run to get ahead of me, then puts her front on the ground, with her bum in the air, for me to scratch her hip region, while she moves her face round the textured concrete slabs. She seems to enjoy the feeling, cos when I try and leave, she runs ahead, and starts the whole process again. We have those very knobbly old slabs that seem to have pebbles in them, and she seems to like the massage affect! :)

SeagullSong · 21/02/2021 13:41

One of mine does this regularly, he zigzags all over the garden then hides and pounces. His brother is more sedate, but gets the zoomies occasionaly and tries to get me to chase him up the tree!

TableNiner · 21/02/2021 19:08

I love the way all cats have their own little personalities.
@Fluffycloudland77 @TheGonnagle Yes, the way they pretend they don't care but are watching and get disappointed if you don't do it!

Sounds like you’re his playmate opSmile

yahyahs22 · 22/02/2021 23:13

Sorry this is hilarious to me!!

maggiethecat · 22/02/2021 23:37

Yep, 2 teenage dc love to chase Lola around the house and she seems to like being chased too; at least I hope so......🙀

Paintedglass · 22/02/2021 23:41

Mines about 12 now and has lost a yard. She’s got old lady whiskers growing from her chin. But now and again she’ll sit at the bottom of the stairs when I’m in the hallway, give her bum a waggle and wait for me to say “I’m coming to get you”. Then she’ll dart up the stairs with the agility of a much younger woman, then curl up and sleep in one of her many places

Enough4me · 22/02/2021 23:42

I have to have 'conversations' with mine as she likes a good moan about life. She also has mad races with herself up and down the stairs then pretends it wasn't her banging about. Crazy but fun!

Paintedglass · 22/02/2021 23:49

@Enough4me mine is a chatterbox too. But like yours usually a run down of what displeases her coupled with demands that I make it stop - the rain, the sight of next doors dog etc. Often she’ll just answer with a “No” even if I haven’t asked her a question. Grumpy old cow

MrsLorensen · 22/02/2021 23:57

OP my cat is 6 and she does this too. Turns into a hoop shape and sidles up to me sideways on tiptoes and then turns on her heels inviting me to chase her. She likes it when I hide behind a door and jump out. But her favourite game is trying to catch me my poking her paws through the bannisters (she rushes up and down). It's enlivened lockdown no end and cuts down on dusting...

Emmelina · 23/02/2021 00:10

Luna loves to be chased and to peek around doors to engage you, she will come and swat at you if you ignore her. Lupin will hide in a play tube and wait for you to pass but will often miss his cue - I humour him by stopping at the end, wiggling my toes and saying loudly “oh! I was sure Lupin was around here somewhere, but I can’t find him!” He’ll then pounce out and grab my ankles, then trot off proudly with tail and snoot high Grin. Charlie will sometimes raise his head or twitch his ears when I’m playing with the other two, but he’s too lazy to join in.

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 23/02/2021 00:34

Yes!

I also used to have a cat when I was a kid who liked me to open all the doors and chase him through the house. Then he'd turn and chase me. I'd run squealing and giggling and dive into the couch and cover my head and he'd leap on me and have a play fight. Never with claws out. He was a cracking cat. Used to fetch things we'd throw for him. Favourites were curtain hooks.

Want2beme · 23/02/2021 10:54

We have a morning routine. She'll stand outside the bedroom door, wait til I've got to the stairs at the other end of the landing, I then go down the stairs til I get to the turn, I play peekaboo and she comes rushing towards me, making a really sweet little noise!

fucknuckle · 23/02/2021 11:01

mine gets the zoomies late at night. when i ask him if he wants to get us evicted he miaows a sorry and goes straight to bed.

his favourite game is either ‘Pull My Tail Quite Hard for Five Minutes’ or the ‘It’s Your Own Stupid Fault’ Dreamies game. i taught him to give me a paw to get his Dreamies and now he follows me around tapping my foot with his paw to demand them.

cats are dicks.

Oldraver · 24/02/2021 07:39

With Ernie he used to play a sort of hide and seek. I would make sure he saw me hide and then he would stalk me. Only to ponce and you would have to chase him

Col's not interested in me as he had Dexter to chase

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2021 07:43

I get pounced on in the morning. He runs towards me with his paw swiping and teeth out....at least I think it’s a game....
