My cat is not well

i think my baby girl (19 years old) might be on the way out, she's been unwell the last few days, not eating or drinking although she will take a bit of rainwater if I put it in front of her nose, she's sleeping all of the time. She will only drink rain water, I have to leave lots of containers out in the garden to collect rain - spring water or tap water are always refused.
I did think her back legs had gone but she was downstairs last night and upstairs this morning and has used the litter tray.
She has chronic kidney disease and has survived countless medical conditions since she was three years old. I have never know a sickly cat survive so long.
She is like Lazarus, resurrected but more than once. She was at deaths door three years ago but survived and a few years before that.
I took her to the vet yesterday to ask if it was time but he advised to wait a few more days and give her pain killers just in case she's in pain, she doesn't seem to be just very very tired.
I know her time is coming soon but I can't bear it. This is cat number 8 and I can never understand how we can survive the pain of losing them.

Give her a few days, she might pull through with a “Ta-Da!”.

I never know how we’re expected to cope either, I’ve seen people lose husbands with less grief than I had over my little boy.

@Shehasadiamondinthesky what a beautiful cat and an amazing age! I had a very sickly rescue that kept pulling through against the odds, when the time came I did know the right thing for her, so have faith you will know when is right. My husband always says you never make a big decision based on a single data point, you see if there is a trend, this got me through our cat being poorly on numerous occasions. Hopefully it's just the change in weather that has got her out of sorts and she will be feeling brighter in a day or so.

Lets hope so, I can't imagine life without her.

I was sure that was it, was going to take her in on Monday with a view to ending it as she's been so ill but she's turned the corner. She is now walking about and taking some food, managed to get on the bed for a cuddle earlier.
Still not well but much better. I think she's had a virus. One of my other cats used to get one every year and was quite ill with it. None of the others did.
Four days of sleeping and anti-inflammatories seem to have done the trick.
Poor old girl.

Is she on any nutritional supplements like they give elderly humans?.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 21/02/2021 11:11

Yes and she has a special diet, i take her in to the vets regularly because I'm so afraid of her suffering or being malnourished or whatever as she has had colitis for some years.
