Cat Squinting in one eye

Dc noticed this tonight and I wasn't sure if cats do squint with one eye naturally or is this possibly because of discomfort/infection/illness.

I know it's not because of the photo ill timing the blink because I have enough shots and it doesn't happen with the other eye.

Anyone had a cat with one squinty eye?

If that’s unusual for your cat, and I would say it must be for DC to point it out, then it has a problem with its eye.
Mine might do that once or twice, if it’s dazzled by the sun or is clearing dust or something from its eye, but not repeatedly.

Will watch her and see what happens tomorrow morning. She seems fine otherwise but want to keep on top of it in case something not right.

You could try and wipe the eye with some cooled down boiled water, wouldn't do any harm anyway.

Mine always does this. I googled it and found it was a common thing. It’s a sign of affection!!

Yes. Cheddar des it. She has an old injury in one eye, but often does it in the other. I do wonder if her eyes do bother her a bit, as she'll sometimes do it in both.

Yes one of my cats does this all the time. We have now affectionately nicknamed him One Eyed Jack. I did ask the vet to check his eyes when he went in for his jabs and she said they were fine. I just think it's a bit of a lazy eye.

Hi our old boy started to do this quite suddenly a few weeks ago and his eye started to get watery and a bit oozy. It turned out to be an infection in his top canine (under his eye) which was swelling the gum and pushing his eyelid closed. We were really shocked as we didn’t even think of dental pain being a cause. He has had extractions and the squint has gone.

I think if his eye is looking fine without signs of watering / oozing it’s probably just an affectionate gesture Smile but maybe keep a look out for any signs of infection? He’s beautiful by the way!

She seems fine now, thankfully 😻

She's due her 6 monthly check soon so I'll ask them to have a look at her eyes too.
