Hello helpful lovely people of the litter tray. My big cat is always mithering for food. The vet has confirmed he is a big lad not fat as such but advised not to go above 3 sachets a day.
I’m getting fed up of the kitchen pestering it’s like he’s never satisfied after eating.
Do you have ideas for a better feed regime? Dry food always down? 2 larger feeds or 3 smaller ?
Help it’s getting so I get fed up with him just being about the food (I know that’s a cat essentially but it’s annoying)
Picture attached this is him doing his yes I have a lovely log burner to lie in front of but I will squash here by the dirty boots desperately pressed up against the radiator!

He's a bit of a chonk but not as big as the lion I was hoping for Grin

He is utterly beautiful.

And a little bit manipulative 😀

lubeybooby · 18/02/2021 09:16

if he is quite active and goes out a lot you might get away with 4 sachets but if not stick to three

Get a thyroid & diabetes check for him if you can as these can make them hassle you for food

What a gorgeous boy!

I do two wet feeds and a dry feed a day. The dry feed is measured out in the morning but split over 2-3 feeds, so if mine mothers me there's usually a bit of food to give him.

If mine gets too demanding, he's usually put into the garden but I suspect he's dining out elsewhere!

Following as mine is the same. She is definitely putting on weight and has two pouches plus dry food. The bowls are permanently empty as she eats everything available then cries for more. She is almost three, we've only had her for four months so not sure if this is a change or not as she was skinny on arrival so we were feeding her up to proper weight.

She's a large breed so could still be growing until age 4, but definitely fat at the moment!

Time windows when food is available & when it's not. They soon learn that nagging can be counter-productive & to sleep instead.

Our windows are 6am-11am & 4pm-9pm. I shove 'em outside if they nag at other times.

You know that thing where a desperate TLT poster asks a question about their cat and instead of getting advice from some posters they just get reassurance that their cat is beautiful?

This.

ilovebagpuss · 18/02/2021 12:57

Thank you for the love I will pass this on to Maximus and tell him he is beautiful but irritating in the food department.
Thank you for the advice about windows of feeding I think I am guilty of just bunging him a sachet to keep him happy and he has trained me.
I think I will get some dry food also and offer A little sprinkle of this as well so if he is truly hungry he will eat that.
I will have to stand firm between the feed times so he gets the message Grin

My friend had this with her cat. The vet said that pouches are full of sugar and not filling enough. Their cat has been switched to Hills with occasional treats of tinned fish. He's stopped mithering now

Jayneisagirlsname · 18/02/2021 14:19

It's the name! My chunky Maximus is always wanting food. We have to be very careful with his dry food as it's so easy to over feed. He also gets 1 sachet a day and white fish on weekends.
It's hard to be firm when they are howling and using the big eyes!

If you can try a higher meat content food then do but he needs a lot of play. 10 minutes can tire them out enough for a snooze.

I eat out of boredom, it’s just something to do. You can get puzzle feeders off zooplus for the dry foods.

JennysWell · 18/02/2021 20:27

Sorry forgot a photo of the chonk (she denies being fat, says she is just fluffy)

This is why I don’t leave dry food out.. whatever was out would be gone in seconds whatever the amount. Our boy was ill with FIP almost died- and he’s been milking his recovery with a vengeance. He gets 3 wet meals, dry late evening plus snacks. Not fat but muscly!

The more of Maxiumus the better - he is a belter of a beauty.
