Hi my Dcat is 14 and has only ever eaten wet food. She has never drank water except from a puddle. She is now wanting water and not eating very much. Sleeping a lot, any ideas?

I don’t know but I would be interested to know the answer as my cat is very similar. She is 15 and never drank water until we got our puppy 18 months ago and she drinks out of his water bowl all the time.

Have you tried to put down water for your cat previously? I do when it has been very hot and make sure water is about in the garden but usually it is ignored.

Definitely needs to see the vet.

AmandaHugenkiss · 16/02/2021 19:57

Get her to the vet for tests. Lots of things that can cause increased thirst you need to check for. Hopefully just a sign of age and slowing down.

AmandaHugenkiss · 16/02/2021 19:58

I always have a water bowl down and my old boy drinks frequently from it.

Voluptuagoodshag · 16/02/2021 21:55

Possible kidney issues if thirsty. Definitely needs to see vet.

Appointment for tomorrow but she has eaten pork from our spare ribs tonight.

Unfortunately she was PTS this morning. Kidney failure. Sad

So sorry to hear this. It’s heart breaking when they go. 💐

Voluptuagoodshag · 19/02/2021 15:24

@elephantoverthehill Flowers and massive big hugs. Had to do the same recently to my beloved old mog, it was heartbreaking. xx

Thank you for your kind words Amanda and Voluptua. It was very weird not being allowed into the surgery and discussing it on the pavement. Strange times indeed.

I'm sorry to hear that, OP. My sympathies.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/02/2021 16:41

I’m so sorry, I know how much it hurts. I hope you’ve got someone with you tonight.

I'm so sorry, it's very hard to lose a cat but especially when it's sudden.Flowers
