Recommendations for carriers

Hello all, I am after recommendations for a sturdy cat carrier. The one I used today to try and get our cat to the vet failed, when she managed to split the zip and get out in the car! We had to turn around and return home. So I shall certainly not be going for a zipped one again!
She is always very reluctant to go in the carrier, so one which is easy to get them in to would be great.

Super sturdy. I have a cover (from another brand which I had to adapt it to fit the handle). Or you can drape a blanket over.

Don't bother with the tray though, it's not a perfect fit, I cut down a cheap doormat to line the base of mine and added vetbed and a blanket.

My cat is an ex-stray/semi-feral and this is by far the quickest and easiest (therefore least stressful) carrier to put her in.

I've got a curver picnic basket style one. It's brilliant.

Always the coated metal wire rectangular ones, with the top fully opening to lower them in. You can cover with a towel, or buy the actual covers. They are an excellent investment, worth every penny and will never allow escapees. Will try to do a link!

These MDC carriers are generally used by rescues and are good with no escape route once the cat is in. Those Metalcote ones look similar so also good.
It's best to avoid carriers with plastic fastenings as a determined cat can head butt them open.
A cover over the carrier can help with keeping a cat calmer. You can buy covers for the MDC carriers or you could make one out of an old pillowcase (by cutting it is fine, if, like me, you're useless at sewing).

Got ours from Amazon. It’s kept in the study so the cat can escape in there when he gets p!ssed off with the children, which also means he will go in there without complaint when we need to whip him off to the vet!

I wouldn't ever use a wicker carrier, the wicker can deform, and get brittle with age, and they're not that hard to escape from.

If you have a cat who pees or poops whilst in transit I would also avoid wicker!

I agree about buying a plastic coated wire cage rather than a plastic cat carrier.
My cat was a homeless street cat and really panicked in the plastic type carriers.This cage is perfect, and so easy to get him into it Once in he relaxes as he can see in all directions.
