Changing litter type

Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before, new cat mum here!

We just adopted our lovely girl, she's 9 1/2. I have been using the same litter she had at the rescue centre but I would like to change to a decent clumping type as I'm finding this one a bit wasteful. My questions are:

What is the best clumping litter you would recommend?

And how do I go about introducing the new litter? Should I mix it with the litter she uses now and gradually phase out the old style, or just full on change it to a new one? My concern is she won't like the new litter and it will stop her using the tray which is why I thought maybe to gradually phase out the old style might be best? Any advice on tried and tested methods appreciated!

Sorry if these are silly questions, she will be allowed outside once she's settled in here and I'm hoping she will then do most of her business outside, but for the time being any advice on the litter would be great!

Thanks in advance

Mine came to me on wood pellets (which I'm not keen on) and I just put another tray in another room with Intersand (my preferred litter), and she quickly and totally abandoned the pellet tray!

@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn I hadn't even thought of having two trays with one of each type of litter in! Thank you that's a great suggestion. If I do that hopefully she will pick the new litter Grin

Ultra clumping is good, it’s soft on paws.

Teentitansonloop · 15/02/2021 19:32

Cats best on Amazon is flushable

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 15/02/2021 19:40

Whatever the pack says, cat litter should not be flushed.

I really like Natusan and they often email 30-50% off vouchers

Here. Do the tiny short quiz and get a 10l bag to try half price

I like the sanicat clumping from b and m. £3:99 for 20l.

This stuff is brilliant. Not at all stinky!

Why not @ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn?

@Teentitansonloop

Why not *@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn*?
There's been reported issues around spread of parasites into the oceans and killing sea otters (it's not definitive but worth caution IMO).

But the main reason is that only wee, poo and toilet paper should be flushed. Cat litter isn't one of those. It's like the wipes that say flushable, they shouldn't be flushed either.
