Cat smells after being neutered

Feel like I’m on here asking for advice constantly but here goes!

Boy cat was neutered today, he came home this evening and he absolutely stinks of pee. He has been lying on the sofa this evening and now that absolutely stinks of pee.

Is this normal after being neutered? I can’t bathe him obviously because of the surgery but the smell is very overwhelming! Has anyone experienced this? How long did it take for the smell to go away?

Neither of my 2 had this issue after neutering. Do you think he has peed on himself?

Possibly, I think he may have peed in his carrier as that also smells to high heaven! Do I just have to wait for the smell to go away?

Had cats for 30 plus years: imagine he lost control after the GA and quite possibly peed in the carrier.
If it’s still an issue in a day or two, phone the vet.

Is he ok today?.

Yes he will have peed in the carrier. He'll clean himself. And if he was old enough to have got the tomcat smell, that really does stink. It also takes about a week after neutering for the tomcat smell to disappear from the urine.

Pleased to report he smells MUCH better today. He must have given himself a good clean overnight!
