Does anyone have any advice please?

We have just taken on dh late grandads cat who is 2 years old.
She seemed to settle in really well for the first evening but didn't eat a lot, again today she hasn't eaten much either but she's crying often.
Does this sound like anxiety as it's a new home? Could it be because she is grieving? Or unwell?
She's enjoying being fussed and snuggling up to us happily, we're both cat lovers and I knew she would need time to settle in but I'm not sure what she wants when she cries, her litter tray is clean and she's got food and water but still keeps meowing.

Are you offering the same food she was having already?

sodalite · 04/02/2021 22:12

I believe we are as we've taken what was in the cupboard, there was a supply of wet and dry and treats.

Are you giving her the same food as she is used to eating? Some cats are extremely fussy and will only eat one brand. Otherwise, try feeding her somewhere quiet and leaving the food down. Cats like their food and water separately and not near their litter tray and prefer it to be at room temperature. If nothing works the only other thing to do is get a vet to check her over.

Just give her time. It may take her a little longer to settle down.
You seem to be doing all the right things. It'll be fine, lots of love and
cuddles. x

Hi OP we have a little rescue cat who is very noisy. Sometimes it’s clear what she wants - to play or to be fed or just to have a cuddle; but she is just generally a very verbal cat! Maybe your cat is still a little unsettled and seeking reassurance, or maybe she’s just a chatty cat. Hope she settles soon x

That's reassuring, I hope you're right.

Is she spayed?

sodalite · 05/02/2021 00:13

No not yet as she has been an indoor cat until now.
I have just given her some chicken and she's found her appetite.

I'm also thinking she could be in heat. We will have to get her done soon so she can go outside.
I imagine she must have a grieving proses to go through as well.

Very possibly in season definitely get her spayed when you can x
