Cat holding front paw up

I noticed over the weekend our boy cat is holding one of his front paws up. Tends to be if he's jumped down from somewhere. Hes not got anything stuck in it. Could it be a sprain and if so, does this require a vet trip?
Ill take him of course if it does but feeling a little anxious with covid etc and I'd need to get a taxi there and back.

He's let me inspect it but pulls away a bit. Appetite etc is all normal.

Sounds like he is in pain. My vet procedure is very safe. Much safer than the hospital I work in!

Last time I was at the vets with my other cat I was impressed with how they operated. Its more the getting there and back.
