How to make sure a breeder is legitimate?

I'd like to buy a Burmese. I had cats and dogs growing up and small animals (hamsters and rats) as an adult, but haven't bought from a breeder before. I have found local Burmese breeders on the GCCF website. What more should I do to ensure the breeder is legitimate? Should the kitten come with a pedigree certificate like pedigree puppies do? Thanks.

Is there a club for the pedigree? I bet they could advise you. And you should get paperwork.

Check to see if the mums live in a cattery or are in the home. My pair were breeding queens rescued from a breeder, who looked legitimate, but it was a kitten farm. They lived in a chicken coop style cattery and were not in good condition.
