Peeing on the rug

I have two cats, mother and daughter. Mother is about 11, daughter about 9. They both use litter trays perfectly.

However, since I’ve had a new rug mom cat has decided to use it as her toilet.

She will just crouch on the rug to do her business in front of us, no attempt to go to her tray or go outside.

The rug has a long pile - does she think it’s some form of long, warm indoor grass?

I will make her an appointment for a check up, but our vet is only doing emergencies at the moment.

Anyone had anything similar, and what did you do to resolve it?

Ours liked tufty bathmats! They like to toilet on soft things.

Unfortunately once they've peed on it you need to Chuck it. The smell will always linger and they'll keep going back to it.

@Fluffycloudland77 I thought that might be the issue. Nice soft rug or hard cold litter Smile

Looks like I’m rug shopping on Amazon tomorrow - I’ll be getting a short pile this time though
