When to neuter

Hi, just looking for advice on when to neuter our kitten. He's a ginger Tom and we got him in October - the rescue thought he was about ten weeks.

He has stated meowing more and is desperate to be outside- throwing himself at the door if anyone goes out. He's also being very ahem 'loving' to the blankets on the sofa.

Would you call the vet to book in now - they did say six months when we had his vaccinations?

Thanks!

Cats are generally neutered at 4 months now, it used to be 6 months, so I would contact the vets again. If they refuse then try another vets.
Rescues are often neutered younger than 4 months but it does depend on the vet they use.

ASAP.

Mine was done at 4.5 months.

At 4 months. So asap

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/01/2021 22:19

Oh as soon as. If he gets out you’re fucked trying to get an entire tom in when there’s lady cats to look for.

Do they have to be a certain weight? I’ve got a 5 month female kitten in season and she’s driving us insane. The vet saw her last month and said she’s too small for the procedure and to wait til she’s 6 months. Are males different ?

Ah right thanks everyone I'll ring the vets tomorrow!

Females are the same. How much does she weigh?.

StCharlotte · 07/01/2021 22:43

My vets are normally six months but my current "clutch" are male/female siblings and he was showing unhealthy interest in his sister so he did them at about four and a half months.

StCharlotte · 07/01/2021 22:44

Meant to add they had to weigh enough though.

Sounds like he's nearly 6 months anyway, so I'd just ring the vet and book it asap. Bless him!
