Cats drinking Christmas tree water

Both my cats have been happily drinking the water from the Christmas tree stand the whole time it's been up. By now it's been there over three weeks - and although I have topped it up a couple of times by now it must be pretty stagnant mustn't it? They have a bowl of clean water changed twice daily, plus access to the sink and a running tap courtesy of a willing human at any time they please - and there's a load of nice clean rain water puddles outside if they really didn't want to drink from either of these. It seems the Christmas tree water is most attractive option though, they're not to be deterred! Has anyone else's cat been doing this?

They like filtered water too if you have a filter jug.

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77 - the other 49 weeks of the year they're perfectly happy drinking from the water bowl/tap, I'm just not sure what it is about the Christmas tree water that's so attractive to them!

Yeah it's very common for some bizarre reason!

One of mine used to go loopy on Christmas tree water. Spent half his day drinking it and the other half doing wall-of-death round the house! We stopped getting a real tree for the sake of his health!
Nowadays he prefers outside-tap water or the rain thats collected on the outside of a bag of compost.

All of mine have preferred drinking from various containers in the garden - plant saucers and the like. Bonus points if wiggly things dive for the bottom when they start lapping. Delicious!

My cats drink the tree water every damn year. It's a real treat, apparently.
