Older cat not liking kitten after castration

I have a 2 year old and a kitten. They were kind of getting on. They would sleep touching but not cuddling and the older cat would lick the kittens head occasionally
Kitten was castrated today and now she hates him. Will his smell have changed that much or will it be the smell of the vets. He keeps trying to lay near her and she is growling and hissing, she is usually a very gentle cat and I had never actually heard her hiss before

Smell from the vets l think. I adopted a mummy cat and baby cat a few years ago. They got along well and were close. Until baby cat was old enough to be neutered, cue lots of hissing. It wore off after a day or so

This is typical behaviour after the vets. Give it a few days and things will settle again.

Definitely vet smell !! My older two hated my three kittens with a vengeance for about 2 days afterwards, having been happy with them previously.
I rubbed them all over with one of my worn t shirts- instantly changed their smell to ‘normal’ and life carried on as before.
I have to admit the vet smell is offensive to me too - like 1970s nhs disinfectant. !

Rub a towel over your older cat then rub it over the kitten to try and cover up the vet smell

Yep, it's the smell. Good advice re rubbing the kitten with something that smells familiar.

Its definitely the smell when I had two cats one would always hiss when the other one came back from the vets. This could go on for a few days.
They were normally very good friends.
