Hello - any expert advice would be welcome on my fairly random questions..

  1. my 7 month old kitten has been with me about a month and was spayed today. Possibly coincidentally, since coming hone she is breathing in a 'chesty' way - it reminds me of a chesty baby when you can hear their breathing in a raspy way. Otherwise completely herself - huge appetite and active. Is this normal in cats?

  2. Now that she is spayed I will encourage her to come out in the garden with me - she follows me everywhere so I imagine she will come out into back garden if I go with her. I don't anticipate her leaving the garden or staying out there alone as she is currently petrified of the outdoors, but if I go out I think she would come with me.

I would love if she went to the toilet outdoors more, and I was wondering if that is something that cats naturally will do even if they have been kept up indoors up until this point?

Thanks Smile

I hope your cat is less chesty today. If not maybe ring the vets to ask for advice.

As for toileting outside, it's completely normal for cats to keep coming back in to use the litter tray to begin with and this can go on for a few weeks but most cats will then just start going outside without you doing anything at all, so just see what happens to begin with. There are things you can do to tempt a reluctant cat outside if it does prove a problem, such as mixing some garden soil in with the litter or moving the tray closer to the door, but hopefully you won't need to bother with any of that.
