My beloved cat has gone

The vet put our darling cat to sleep yesterday morning. She was only 6, had a massive haemorrhagic episode and they couldn't save her. I have said goodby to previous pets with sadness but this has knocked me for 6, I am utterly bereft and full of rage, what ifs and sobbing. Please help me reconcile this feeling. She was the best cat in the world to me and I loved her so very dearly. I don't know what I am going to do with myself.

I'm so sorry, OP. That's so horrible and such a shock when they're so young. I lost my girl cat over the summer after she ran at the wheels of a car. I still can't get over the waste. She was also only 4 or 5. We live on such a quiet road and I just assumed she'd still be here when the kids were going off to uni. It's devastating.

Feel free to have a few days of feeling that rage. It's fair enough. And seek out the company of people who will understand. I rang lots of fellow cat owners when it happened and felt better just for feeling vindicated in my upset and anger. And know that, while it's always upsetting, you won't always feel quite as bereft and angry as you do tonight.
