Hi

I asked a question earlier about naming my new rescue cat (currently Clio).

I have all the usual toys for her, ready for when she arrives in the week but have any of you for any 'oh my goodness, you have to get this toy, my cat loves it' tips? I know all cats are different but I'm just on the hunt for interactive toys she can play with when I'm not in the room playing with her (I have wands, led light, different scrunch toys etc)

Thanks again x

In my experience their favourite "toys" are rarely actual toys. One of mine likes making off with hairbands and the other one enjoys hooking paint brushes out of the art drawer to play with Grin

In answer to your question, though, I think they probably got the most fun out of the interactive bits of their cat tree when no one was around to play with them, before they were old enough to go outside and climb real ones. Some trees come with dangly ropes and pompoms etc, so may be worth looking at if you haven't already.

She got it for Christmas last year and found it before Christmas Grin

Cardboard box with holes cut in it. Luckily Haribo uses soft paws when he plays and if we stick a finger in the holes we don't get clawed. It's quite funny when he's in the box and we say "Haribo where's your face?" He sticks his eye or nose against the hole as if to say "here it is".

DH bought one of those flapping fish
To say the cats are unimpressed is an understatement

MaleCat glares at it with a WTAF look
FemaleCat full on wrestles it until it stops then walks off .

IME all toys fall in and out of favour & need rotation like toddler toys.

But these 3 were wildly popular on first introduction. The bird induced mad gymnastic action in a generally pedestrian grown-up cat Grin

They do also play with little fluffy birds/mice (B&M can be a good source, though I haven’t looked for a while).

Those get a good killing regularly (& maybe relieves pressure on the real thing...)

Oh I just looked in the app & they still have them! They start out catnipped & I have a spray bottle for when it wears off a bit.

Definitely the laser pen! she gets a lot of exercise chasing the pointed image.

maggiethecat · 29/11/2020 23:03

oops, just saw you mentioned you have the led light.

Ball of scrunched up foil 🤷‍♀️

If you asked my FemaleCat "What's your favourite cat toy" she;d say MaleCat Grin

He wanders about with a Father Dougal Face ( complete innocence) while she chases him under the table , leaps onto the table and peers at him from above . THen she can launch herself to land just behind him

Never gets stale

Feathers... they love them!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2020 13:24

Feathers...
Our boy brings in magpie feathers (thankfully not the whole magpie) and he's SO pleased with himself Grin

The Kickeroo is a firm favourite here.

As are any sort of box, little balls, loo roll tubes, and rather bizarrely one of those plungers you get with children's Nurofen syringes.

I've held off on catnip for the moment because she's only 4 months old and already 90% mental - I fear she might do something very stupid if she gets high.
