Lillies 😢

Not a good day.

DH bought me some flowers for our anniversary and I forgot to check for lillies. I never have them in the house, but just didn't check.

Kitty jumped up onto the table and had his head in the flowers for about 30 seconds. I shooed him off. When he did it again, I noticed the lillies and one of the stamins was wet and had loose pollen. Went to the vets, who sent us to a emergency vet.

Been 2.5 hours since it happened and they have taken in to make him sick and do blood tests, but when we arrived he was vomitting and foaming at mouth. I guess it could be travel sickness but I'm very worried.

Oh, no! Hoping he will be OK - you realised what had happened and got him to the vets quickly which is good.

Keeping everything crossed he's ok. You got him to the vets quickly which is good. A former colleague's kitten did similar and was ok, I think he was in the vets for a few days.

So we've been sent home. Couldn't see any pollen in his mouth, and vomited enough not to need to be made to. Took bloods and need to have them repeated Monday. Have charcoal. They didn't want to put him on drips as no evidence he injested any. But what if he has?

The best thing you can do now is monitor him closely. It's good that they don't believe he ingested any - I'm sure they wouldn't have sent you home if they didn't think he was going to be OK.

He's ate tuna with charcoal so fingers crossed.

That's a good sign!

10 hours now. Still eating and playing. Still very worried. Convinced the moment I relax he'll go down hill.

Is someone staying up with him tonight?.

Is he ok?.

Icenii · 29/11/2020 07:58

I'm thinking he didn't ingest any. Been playing with DD this morning, ruining the Christmas tree. I think he would be very ill by now.

I knew about lilies too, just didn't inspect the bunch of flowers. It was just a single lily in a large bunch. Might just ban flowers because it was rather stressful.

I should think if he was going to be ill there'd have been symptoms by now. Glad he's OK!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/11/2020 11:37

Hopefully it’s ok then. Florists ought to check if the flowers are going to a home with cats.

This. It astounds me how Lilys are used without any thought to how harmful they are to cats.

That’s such a old idea. I might suggest this to my local florist. They should put up posters.
