New Kittens!!! (pics included) got fleas

Got two beautiful new kittens today, 8 week old brothers. They are absolutely riddled with fleas! I have flea combed each of them 3 times, do you think combing alone could be enough to get rid of them? I've managed to get hold of some flea drops you can use from 8 weeks old but they wash each other and I'm worried that they will lick it off each other and be poisoned! Has anyone else had kittens this young with fleas?

What flea treatment do you have? If its from the supermarket then i wouldn't trust it to be safe. Speak to a vet before using anything on them

I got it from the pet shop. I spoke to the staff in there who seemed very knowledgable and it says 8 weeks and above on the box

Gorgeous little kitties. I would ask the vet for advice, fleas can make kittens really ill and anaemic. Where did you get them from.

Get them booked in and checked out at the vet tomorrow. We had the same, when we brought them home realised they had fleas, straight to the vet and after one dose fleas were gone.
The rubbish flea treatments sold in pet shops/supermarkets aren’t worth it at all, prescription is the way to go.

I saw a video on FB recently where someone was approached & followed by a very young kitten which she (of course ) adopted.
Anyway it was riddled with fleas and she bathed it.
You could try that to be going on with?

Advantage is the only only without a prescription that reliably works.

They should have been treated by whoever bred them though.

I’d give them a bath to pick the little buggers off and book in the vets tm for a deflea spray and worming.

Probably much safer than chemicals at their age & with luck they’re not strong enough to wriggle away while you’re doing it 🤞🏻

I'd go with the bath tonight and ring the vet for a full check and working tomorrow. Make sure you get rid of or wash anything the kittens have come into contact with, you don't want to have to fumigate the whole house!
They're beautiful by the way, have you named them? If not, how about itchy and scratchy?

Only vet flea treatment works. Did they come from a rescue or Scumtree where the money grabbing sellers claimed they were flead and wormed?

Definitely very cute!! I woukd take them to the vet tomorrow to get a full check up. Arriving with fleas doesn't give me much confidence in the 'breeders'.

Don't use the stuff you get in pet shops / supermarkets....It's far too strong and can make tiny kittens very ill.

Take them to the vet and get them to do it- at this age they need to strictly control the dosage of insecticide.

Agree with others here recommending getting flea treatment from your vet.

I reckon the kitten with the stripe on the forehead is going to be trouble

Definitely take them to the vets for flea treatment though. They can then give them a check over and prescribe worming treatment too.

Buy some bloody Frontline spray. (£15.00)
It can be used from 2 days of age, its rids pets of parasites and your kittens might actually grow up to be adult cats!

Take it from someone who has held a kitten as he died, riddled in fleas. Stop titting about with dish soap and actually treat your poor pets.

Speak to your vet first before spraying them with anything

I agree with the above, the best thing to do is get them booked in at the vets ASAP and get all your flea and worming treatments through them.
In the meantime, vaccum everywhere they've been as frequently as possible to pick up as many eggs as you can and then empty the vacuum straightaway into the dustbin to limit the chance of infestation.

I spoke to vets at pets at home yesterday and they said they have a 2 week waiting list!!!! Will try some more tomorrow. In the meantime I'm going to keep damp combing as I'm getting loads out that way. They are grooming each other now, they must be relieved to have fewer fleas. Feel mean keeping them in the kitchen but I don't want fleas all over the house

They came from my son's best friends dad. He didn't want money for them, just wanted them to go to a good home. He rang me yesterday to pre warn me about the fleas

Is he neutering mum cat? Hopefully he is or in about 2 months he’ll have another litter.

They look lovely. Similar happened to us when we got a kitten from someone we knew, they just didn't realise he could pick them up even though he wasn't going out. We had to wait a week to see a vet, but he was fine and has been very healthy & happy since and I'm sure yours will be too.
