spay operation today - very anxious

I dropped my 8 months old kitten to the vet this morning for her spay operation. I know it is a routine operation but I am very stressed about it. And feeling sad and guilty even though I know it is the best thing to do. I almost called to cancel yesterday... Now I am anxiously waiting for them to call me around lunchtime to let me know how it went.
What can I expect when I pick her up later? How long will it take for her to feel ok again?

Most cats bounce back really quickly! I got 2 of my boys neutered and one was absolutely fine and normal as soon as he got home. The other was a bit drowsy for a few hours and then he was completely normal.

It's really worrying sending your pet off to have an operation but she will be absolutely fine, it's a routine procedure and she'll be fine. She might need extra Dreamies and cuddles though to say sorry!

She'll be fine. Normally, as soon as the anaesthetic wears off, they're back to normal.

Thanks! I do know I am being irrational. Can't wait to bring her home!

I was worried when I had my kittens done earlier this year. They were fine - I found they were weirdly hyper when they got home, really dopey but couldn't settle - I think it's because of the drugs that they give them to come round from the anaesthesia. The next day they just slept.
Vet advised they might find the wound a bit itchy as it healed but they seemed unconcerned. They were on pain relief for a few days.
I was amazed how quickly they recovered.
I'm sure your kitty will be fine.

The vet said I should prevent her from jumping around for at least a week... I don't really know how I'll manage that. Her favourite thing to do at the moment is jump on the top of doors...

My two girls didn't seem to notice that anything had happened - they came home and were happily jumping onto window ledges etc as usual. They didn't bother with their stitches either. She'll be fine!

Beamur · 20/11/2020 11:09

I couldn't stop mine jumping either! And with 2 there was lots of rough play I couldn't stop either!!! It was a bit stressful but they both recovered well.

Papergirl1968 · 20/11/2020 11:15

My boy cat came home starving due to not being fed before the op! Polished off several meals on the trot...
My girl cat was fine too. Didn’t bother about her stitches or seem to notice that anything had happened.

LindaEllen · 20/11/2020 11:18

Our girl was fine when she had hers. We were told to stop her from jumping on things, and she literally wandered out of her cat carrier and leapt onto the kitchen worktop as soon as she got home (we had to keep her in the lounge for a while to stop her doing that!), and then ate a massive dinner.

OP you know the rules. Photo please Grin

Ooh, she is beautiful!

cataline · 20/11/2020 11:41

She's gorgeous!

I'm sure she'll be fine but I do understand the angst.

My precious baby is due her spay next week too and I'm a bit anxious. I've had plenty of cats before who've all gone through it just fine but it's still a worry!

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/11/2020 11:45

Aww op, she is gorgeous. I had a Cleo a few years ago, she lived until she was 19. Your Cleo will be fine. Keep her quiet and warm, she’ll probably not notice apart from that her wee baldy bit with the stitches is cold, lol.

dewisant2020 · 20/11/2020 11:52

She'll be absolutely fine, I remember how nervous I was when we got our dog spayed.
Animals aren't like humans they just get on with it.
Keep her warm and relaxed and let her sort herself out

Nathalie1975 · 20/11/2020 12:04

Thank you everyone for keeping me company this morning. I just got the call from the vet that all went well so I feel much better now. I am picking her up this afternoon.

Brilliant news!

Good to hear that Chloe is fine Smile

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/11/2020 17:27

Great news op, so glad she is fine

Don't worry. Our vets never say that and our clinic is a neuter specialist centre. She'll be fine if she wants to jump around.
ShalomToYouJackie · 20/11/2020 19:58

How is she?

Nathalie1975 · 20/11/2020 20:26

Thanks @thecatneuterer . That's good to know.

She is very quiet and subdued this evening but hopefully she'll be back to normal tomorrow.
