Kneading

My 6 month old kitten seems to have this routine where he climbs on to my chest and meows in my face before plopping down and kneading and licking my arm particularly where my arm folds. He only does it in this place on this arm and no where else he seems so happy and content when he does it and I love it I've never heard a kitten purr so loud I'm just genuinely curious as to why he does it so regularly too!

He feels safe and loves you. All my 3 cats do it to me. It's special and adorable

It's adorable when it's not 2am.

I believe it is a throwback to them suckling where the kneading gets the milk flowing. So cats are generally very relaxed and happy when doing it.

Mine is 7 and still does this, but with nose biting rather than arm licking unfortunately. It really hurts but he looks so happy while he does it. If I deny him the nose he really does get quite desperate.

They do it to the one they see as mum, ours never kneaded on dh.

Aw, we call it "puddening" because my mum did. It's so sweet 😻

It really hurts! Can you put a cushion on you lap and encourage your kitten to knead that?

I keep Cheddars claws short because she does it on my face and neck.

Usually in the middle if the night!

My boy cat kneads me and then dribbles all over me. Lovely....

Yeah he's happy. I have to move mine when he does that as he tries to mount my arm and hump it!

He's been neutered so no idea why he's doing that.

My neutered boy sometimes humps as well. We looked into it & it's a comfort thing. Still off-putting though!
