My D kitty is 6/7 months now and seems to be getting a bit fed up with the old fish on a stick!

What toys do your cats really love?

I've just bought one of these, £4.99 in Aldi atm

www.catit.com/uk/shop/senses-2-play-circuit/

As you can see, it's very popular and you can buy more to link together and also scratch pads and massage centres that fit in the middle

AlCalavicci · 30/10/2020 00:35

My cat is a bit older ( about a year old ) he loves lasers but I feel a bit mean using them to much as he seems to get frustrated that he can not actually catch the light so we stick to balls of paper and bouncy balls most of the time .
He often gets the zoomies at about 3 am and this moning was no different, but when I came down I found that he had knocked a egg onto the floor and played with the shell .
Raw egg all over the place !

Mum2b2020 · 30/10/2020 00:51

My cats loved this toy...until they managed to bite off the feather. Was so entertaining watching them with it that my family all bought one for their cats too. Got ours from zooplus though.

Mine all love chasing the laser, they have wee balls and toy mice, but rarely bother with them, though one of them adores dummies, so I get her them, she likes to carry them around, then attack them!
Their favourite game is probably annoying/chasing each other. This is why I have three!

minipie · 30/10/2020 01:22

Ball of foil! About 2-3 cm size.
Better than anything we have bought.
Also loves a straw.

LedaandtheSwan · 30/10/2020 02:41

An ordinary large cardboard box with holes cut into it.

Yes yes ball of foil.

A treat ball. Fill it with kitty biscuits and Puss has to kick it together treats out.

Or something like this?

Definitely the tinfoil ball OP, and, If my cat won't sleep at night (pacing up and down) I put a soft toy mouse into a bag of catnip to make said mousey appealing. Take mouse out of bag, give to cat, cat goes mental, tires itself out, straight to sleep, happy days X

bebarkered · 30/10/2020 03:10

Your cat is gorgeous btw x

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/10/2020 08:56

Peacock tail feather, cardboard box, screwed up shredded wheat wrappers, a shopping bag, a pen (when you are using it) fingers, toes...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/10/2020 09:15

Oh - and don't forget junk mail

Mine enjoy a laser pointer (but previous cat used to just look at me in disgust and then ignore it)

They also like a long piece of firm wire/metal with feathers and a bell on it - it has the added bonus that you can wedge it between the sofa seat cushions and they can play with it themselves whenever they want. Like this www.amazon.co.uk/SLSON-Feather-Interactive-Exerciser-Flexible/dp/B07M99PFZF/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&psc=1&keywords=Wire+cat+toy&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzSUgyVFUxWlk4V1UzJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzU2NzIwMzFEMVhNWlhKVjBCOCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTQzODc5MUlRUDZSVVlNQkJaOSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1604050699&sr=8-2-spons

Practice golf balls were popular but they got everywhere.

The dog's fluffy tail is also popular 😂

KatherineJaneway · 30/10/2020 09:40

My cats love laser pens. Definitely a favourite.

minipie · 30/10/2020 11:11

Oh yes we also have a couple of small soft toys with catnip inside- she loves those

CatBehaviourist · 01/11/2020 09:19

I hope you don’t mind me dropping in! I’m a Cat Behaviourist and just wanted to let you know that the reason why cats get tired of their toys is not only because they have a notoriously short span of attention, but because toys are their prey, and once they’ve killed it, that toy is dead to them! Putting the toys away in a ziplock bag containing some fresh catnip and valerian and bringing just a couple out each day will keep them novel and hopefully interesting for your cats!

In terms of which toys are good, interactive toys that they can chase helps replicate natural predatory behaviour (eg toys with a rod and piece of string or elastic with a feather or similar on the end), but scented toys such as catnip, valerian and toys made from natural honeysuckle wood provide lovely scent enrichment for them (full transparency – I own Honeysuckle Cat Toys and online store selling toys for cats made from Tatarian honeysuckle).

I hope this helps!

Kicker toys. The only toys that get played with over and over again and they don't get bored with.

As kittens mine had a kitten sized one which was basically a bit of fake fur folded over + a feather. Fake Fur was much loved and one cat carried it all round the house and round the garden. Eventually it was v bedraggled and finally, lost.

Bought another recently with catnip in. Even Old Lady Cat who hasn't played in years enjoys fighting with it. Silky Cat hunts it down every evening and then tears around the house.

spongedog · 01/11/2020 09:30

Mine loves chasing pens about, little bouncy balls, scratchy posts and the new fave - pipecleaner spider. The only problem is that his storage space is under my fridge. This was the latest haul!

Kicker toy.
Mine has also developed a rather disturbing ability to play fetch with a scrunched up ball of paper. And will catch kibble in the air if I throw it at her.
Until she gets bored, obviously. Grin

Oh wow. I need to check under my fridge!
Plump82 · 01/11/2020 11:11

One of mine loves pom pom balls. They come with sparkly bits that soon shed which are constantly needing hoovered up and produce erm interesting poos! But girl cat loves them and will play fetch for ages with them. She drops it on us and makes a wee trill noise which tells us she wants to play! Boy cat likes a kick toy or something on the end of a rod.

That flappy fish thing on Instagram looks nice.

www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pets-at-home-worm-roller-cat-toy This was popular with departed Bengal, you can chase it, throw it up in the air, bat it under the bed with your paws.
