My house smells bad

A new friend came to my house the other day, she said my house really smells strongly of cat pee.
I don't mind her speaking up, we're the same age and she is forthright and kind she wouldn't say it to be nasty.
The truth is my elderly cat who is 19 has chronic kidney disease stage 2 and pees a lot and she is really old, her toilet habits are erratic and she sometimes gets caught short.
i hadn't noticed the increasing smell of pee but now I really do and it's pretty bad.
There is no way my baby is going anywhere, I promised her i'd look after her to the end but I need to deal with the pee problem.
I have an aquavac, does anyone know of any really good products for getting rid of the smell, i think I need to aquvac the carpets once a week and use some kind of plug in device but I'm not sure what.

Are you sure your lovely cat still has a good quality of life?

Cats can become very distressed if they are peeing/pooing outside the litter tray.

Are you sure you want to keep her clinging on to life, and potentially in pain because of the kidney disease?

She is as happy as larry, she loves a cuddle, she still likes going outside to have a wander and she plays with all of her toys.
She's very cuddly. It's just that sometimes she doesn't reach the litter tray in time like any old person.
I would know if she was in any distress, I've had numerous cats in previous years including cats with CKD.
She eats and drinks very well and is a good weight. The vet is happy with her too, says she is doing really well for her age.

You’ve got hard floors iirc haven’t you? So that’s one issue removed as carpets a bugger to get clean.

Is it the litter?. You can buy air purifiers, we got one as our house is on an angle that means you don’t get much air through the house unless you have ALL the windows open and even then it doesn’t exactly blow through so we bought an air purifier with a hepa filter.

I have carpets upstairs which is where the problem is, hard floors downstairs but they are covered in rugs.
She doesn't pee heavily on the floor it's just a dribble now and then and cat litter walked all over when it's wet.
The cat litter is good but I have to change it everyday.

Ah right, can you buy a uv torch? If you can’t see where she dribbled you can’t get it out.

My old man cat had cystitis for a while and was miserable and having little (blood filled) accidents. Luckily he's right as rain now!

Does she pee on furniture? Our sofa cushions were getting stinky and we couldn't keep washing them every day (!!!) so used a scented upholstery cleaner on rugs and the sofa. It's a foam that soaks in, I'll see if I can find it.

Otherwise lots of rest diffusers and candles, open windows?

UV light very good idea, I'll get one.
She never pees on furniture, I think she just gets caught short because she sleeps very soundly then can't get to the litter tray in time.
The Dr Beckmann looks good too.

You need a biological enzyme cleaner to break down the proteins which make up the odour.

It happens to the best of us. First and last thing I do every day is go to the loo. Learned that lesson the soggy way.
