Posh Cat Names

I was just having a conversation with a friend about cat names. I recently got a little kitten which we've named Goose, but now decided his name is Lord Goosington-Smythe, my other cat Luna, whose nickname is Pudding, is called Lady Puddington-Smythe. My friend also named her cat something equally as silly and double-barrelled.

Does anyone else give their cats a posh name? Or a ridiculously over the top nickname?

I don't.

Well you did ask Grin.

OnCandyStripeLegs · 15/10/2020 19:15

Ours have titles and surnames. And extra long main names.

OllysArmy · 15/10/2020 19:18

No all our cats have had simple girls names that wouldn't have been out of place in our DDs classes.

Dogs are named after colours

Bummsbet · 15/10/2020 19:19

Mine just have middle names. I guess we're not that posh though.
I made the mistake of introducing my kitten on Facebook as Miss Maude when we first got her and now one of my colleagues calls her Miss Maud every time he asks about her. He's not even being ironic..

Dorothea Marguerite + my double barrelled surname.

It started off as maggie (rescue cat - they named her) and morphed over the years!

Sooverthemill · 15/10/2020 19:25

Our oldest one does because he is very refined. The middle one just has one name though in itself a bit upmarket maybe and the youngest got the only name we could cope with when she turned out not to be a boy

No cats here due to allergies but our recently departed guinea pig boar was known as Sir Geoffrey. He was absolutely lovely: fabulous temperament and exquisite manners (for a cavy!).

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/10/2020 20:29

Bertie became Bertram Bengal when naughty.

Bailey0703 · 15/10/2020 20:36

Pascal.. he is a lord .. but not officially only in our home .

Lobsterquadrille2 · 15/10/2020 21:02

Not really .... but some years ago when I met our new next door neighbours, one of them said "now I know I'm in Tunbridge Wells - there's a cat called Cordelia on one side and Aoife on the other".

SeagullSong · 16/10/2020 05:15

Both cats nicknames gradually morphed into grander titles; the regal Master Stewart of Wooington, and the dastardly Squeaker von Boo.

Icequeen01 · 16/10/2020 05:31

We have an Archie and Angus and often when one appears we will greet them with well hello Mr Archie McFarchie or Mr Angus Bejangus 😀

Roselilly36 · 16/10/2020 06:41

I was talking to someone who’s cat was called Mr Berkeley, how cute is that.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2020 10:10

Cheddar and Magic's middle name is Adeodatus

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2020 10:11

Our teenage hood cat decided his middle name was Alyousius

Clarich007 · 16/10/2020 12:54

My two littermate sister cats were Cassandra and Zieglinda.(Cassie and Ziggy).
We had seen Wagner's Ring Cycle just before we adopted them...we're not posh😂😂

Mumdiva99 · 16/10/2020 13:16

We have Bobbi Bobbington and Silky Silkington. Annoyingly neither knows their own name yet.

NW2SW · 16/10/2020 13:25

I have a pudding too OP Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/10/2020 13:32

grumpy - I think Sybil deserves to be an aristocat.

How about: Lady Sybil Grumpington-Cholmondeley?

YesItsMeIDontCare · 16/10/2020 13:37

Leroy RoRoBerry PinklePurr.

Not so much aristocratic - more Joan Greenwood playing Sibella. So just Sybil will do nicely Grin

We did actually rename her though. Her Battersea name was Bluebell - that certainly wouldn't do.

@Lobsterquadrille2

Ha ha. There's a cat named Portia on my street, that's probably the poshest name I've come across.
Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2020 14:59

I want Portias surname to be Devereux for some reason.

Or Van Arkal.

Icequeen01 · 16/10/2020 19:11

@YesItsMeIDontCare Leroy is my favourite cat on MN!

purrswhileheeats · 16/10/2020 21:26

I had Princess Alfreda, Duchess of the Republic of Cyprus
