How do I tell children my kittens been killed 💔

We have had a kitten for about 5 weeks. He was an escape artist and always shot out. On this occasion I didn’t even know he had escaped. The guilt is killing me, I’m absolutely devastated. I have 3 children 15, 11 and 5. I’ve told the eldest but not the younger two yet. How do I do it? I can’t bare thinking about how heartbroken they will be x

Is he definitely dead or just lost?

No definitely dead unfortunately. My friend messaged me Friday asking if he was in the house as there was a post on fb about a deceased kitten. I went and fetched him xx
