So that lasted well

Havelock has a favourite perch on his tree, he’s only ever used the one spot, even when it was far too small. Earlier today he took a flying leap and unfortunately...

He's not giving up, is he! He's a beautiful boy 🥰.

It's going down, I'm yelling timber...

It happened to us. Haribo was still a kitten and one too many flying leaps broke it. As my DP was removing the broken bits Haribo did another flying leap but this time into thin air and smacked bang into the patio doors. At least Havelock has some dignity about him.

Cat trees are expensive for what they are, cardboard tubes with rope wrapped around them.

Depends - mine is wood with the rope around them. Cost a bit, and weighs a ton, but has lasted over 4 years of Girlcat taking flying leaps from the top of the sofa and cats wrestling on it.

RIP cat tree!

DS2 made our "cat inactivity centre" for his GCSE DT project. It would need a full grown lion to take it out and even then my money is on the inactivity centre.

Mine is also solid wood and strong enough for me too sit on. And I'm not light!
Did Havelock maintain his dignity?

Did Havelock maintain his dignity?
God no. Havelock is the most uncoordinated cat I’ve ever known!
He did a backward flip and the perch flew over him. He landed with a squark and spent the night looking at his perch and miaowing at me.
He keeps going to his tree this morning and then walking away in disgust, the rest of the tree is immaculate as he never uses it.

I’ve ordered him a new (sturdier) one this morning that should be here this weekend (which he’ll probably ignore for a month).

I love it when they try to act like it was supposed to happen. Cheddar once rolled off the bed. I laughed. A lot. She was not happy with me.

Littlebreadandbutterflies · 06/10/2020 12:48

Oh dear, my cat would end up doing this. She looks really similar to Havelock too ☺️

minou123 · 06/10/2020 12:56

I had a cat tree that was bolted to the wall. Male cat loved the hammock at the top.

However, would he climb down properly and nicely? No!
He would pounce from the top of the tree to the sofa. He did it so much the tree came away from the wall. Its broken now.

TroysMammy · 06/10/2020 14:41

Could anyone recommend solid cat trees please, I don't want the disappointment again.

GreenCat44 · 06/10/2020 17:37

I have this one from zooplus. It's metal and very sturdy (they do a smaller one with 2 beds instead of 3). My pair chase each other up and down it like monkeys and it barely wobbles. My old cats ruined a good few trees scratching right through the cardboard until it collapsed Hmm

I must be really mean, Harry's never had a cat tree, only a cheap post from Amazon!

NoMoreFlowers · 10/10/2020 07:51

I bought quite an expensive cat tree from Zooplus and my cat wouldn't go anywhere near it. I gave it to one of my neighbours who fosters cats for an animal charity. She was delighted 😻
