Reoccurring cystitis

Anyone else had experience with this? My cats had two bouts in the last few months, she's been back and forwards to the vets, they have recommend a few things to try, has anyone found anything in particular that helped?

What foods are they eating?

Add water to their wet food, have bowls of water around the place and/or a catit water fountain. You can also dissolve Cystease (other brands are available) capsules into their food to prevent cystitis.

Oh and obviously wet food over dry.

She won't eat wet food! She's so bloody picky, I've just bought half of the pet shop and she seems to like cat soup that went down well tonight which I was surprised at, she's currently on purina dry food, I'm going to switch to their bladder protect dry food, she was disgusted with the fountain 😂 I've got some cystease type tablets from the vets but I think I will get some for when she finishes those!

Have you got any bowls of water in rooms away from her food?

I had the catit water fountain in a separate room, she was not impressed with it At all! The vet thinks it may be bought on by anxiety so if this keeps happening she will need to be put in medication for that, yes very annoying but she's lucky she's my favourite don't tell the other cats

Are they on urinary dry food? That sorted mine who weren't keen on wet food. OK so actually I wasn't keen on feeding it to them but that's not really the point. They loved the urinary food and it kept them sorted 99.9% of the time.

I got a bit of a routine going for flareups as well: Feliways plugged in all over the house, extra litter trays out, Metacam on food for affected cat/cats and it would all be over in a day.

Luckily new cat doesn't seem affected - vet told me it was genetic and definitely both sisters I had would get it, usually when they fell out with each other.

If it's anxiety related i'll second the Feliway plug ins

I do have the spray but I had one feliway plug in and it set itself on fire so I don't dare have those again! She's always been a very sensitive girl, she's very clingy and needy, but she is a sweet girl, I don't know what's making her stressed, the vet said her weight isn't helping, she's got a tad chunky since being spayed, I've ordered the cystease tablets and the urirnary care food and I'll douse my house in feliway spray hopefully that works 😂

We had a bout of this, what I found worked was -

Cystease hidden in
Cat soup or tuna water
Moving water bowl to a different room - hers is now in a tall beaker on the windowsill where she sits and quite often slurps away whilst watching the world go by
