Is 3 too many?

We got 2 lovely kittens last year but after one of them died we decided to get another before the remaining kitten got used to being on her own. It took months as we’d only consider a rescue.
We got our lovely rescue kitten about 3 months ago now and he’s settled in wonderfully and our existing kitten (now a cat) has taken to him well.

We were planning to stick with 2 but now one of the rescues that I registered with months ago has contacted me to say they have a kitten for us.... and I really want it! is it greedy to say we’ll take this one too? We can afford it but is 3 too many? Its also a colouring we really like.

So mumsnet... Stick with 2 or go to 3?

Go for it!

Bargebill19 · 02/10/2020 19:25

Go for it. We had 2. Now have 5 indoors and 1 outdoor feral who’s decided he owns us. His wife has decided she wants a divorce and has waltzed off.

MrsMime · 02/10/2020 19:27

Go for it! We have 4 :)

TheLongRider · 02/10/2020 19:56

Go for it, we had four and acquired a kitten a month ago. He gets on really well with our youngest cat and is respectful towards the older three cats.

I've had six before and it was fine.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/10/2020 19:57

No! 3 is great! If you can afford it why the heck not Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/10/2020 20:56

If you can afford the vets fees, good food and give them love then why not?.

newmumwithquestions · 03/10/2020 08:19

Well that’s unanimous!

If I’m honest then I thought you might all confirm what I wanted to do ;-) You didn’t let me down!

I feel a bit guilty I guess as there are people trying to get kittens who can’t get them from rescues due to waiting lists and I worry they’ll just go to gumtree. But maybe I don’t need to worry about that. That’s their decision, not mine.

The only way I would agree is if you post pictures of all of them OP Grin

We’ve got 4, it’s great fun. Go for it.

TeddyIsaHe · 03/10/2020 08:24

3 is the perfect number imo. I had a rescue queen, and then 2 rescue kittens. There was always a cat to stroke/sit on you.

The only downside is they ALL wanted feeding at 5am and would tag team peeling my eyes open with their paws Grin

bodgeitandscarper · 03/10/2020 08:26

Ive just taken a stray feral in after the death of one of my cats, it just seemed that the home was wrong with fewer cats, and this one was in need, so a no brainer to help him out. If my numbers dropped then my husband would get used to it and I can't have that! Currently have six which works well for us.

newmumwithquestions · 03/10/2020 08:33

I have replied to the centre. Guess it will be a couple of weeks till we get him. I will post the obligatory pictures when I get him...

3 is no different to 2 IMO

We're back down to 2 as old girl was finding our house a bit stressful and has gone to her retirement home at MIL's, but as long as they all get on to for it!

autumnboys · 03/10/2020 08:39

We had three for a while, it was brilliant. Grin

cricketmum84 · 03/10/2020 08:40

3 is only too many if you don't share the pictures of them...

Mummyoftwo91 · 03/10/2020 18:41

I recently got a 3rd! Best decision ever

vanillandhoney · 03/10/2020 19:10

We have three! Definitely more fun than two Grin

slipperywhensparticus · 03/10/2020 19:17

I ended up with three i bought one my daughter pointed out to me that he was lonely i went back and got his brother within a few days, then two months later there other brother was put up for free on facebook i was horrified he wasn't even 6 months old and rejected by his forever home 💔 I told her I would take him as I had his brothers anyway the original owner weighed in on the debate and backed me up so she turned him over to me turns out he likes to strip wallpaper which is probably why she wanted rid but I needed to redecorate anyway 🤣😂🤣

JaceLancs · 04/10/2020 18:15

Go for it!
I’ve had as many as 6 at one time
These days 2 works well cost wise
If we get down to one - we always start looking for a frenemy
