Cat missing since Monday - losing hope

Threecouldbefour · 02/10/2020 15:17

I don't know why I'm posting really. I just need to maybe hear some stories of hope. Our gorgeous boy has been missing since Monday morning. His sister came back but he didn't. We are completely devastated. He is only 6 months old and has been an absolute joy since we had him.

Posters are up, flyers are through doors. Dirty washing on line. I'm shaking biscuits and calling at all times day and night.

I feel sick 😢

I'm so sorry, I can imagine how worried you are. When I was younger we had a very adventurous cat who went on an adventure for 10 days and came back to us. I hope he will be back for you all soon!

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/10/2020 16:45

Is he neutered & microchipped.

thecatneuterer · 02/10/2020 17:58

Is he neutered and chipped? Is it the first time he's been out?

Allergictoironing · 02/10/2020 18:15

DSis's boy went missing for a full month in mid-winter once, found & home thinner & a bit straggly looking but otherwise OK Smile

Threecouldbefour · 02/10/2020 18:36

He is neutered and microchipped, yes. He's been going out for about 7 weeks but he rarely goes far - mostly sits by the back door. I feel sick to my stomach. His sister is crying wondering where he is now. We live on a new build estate and it's still under construction - I'm terrified he's gone off in a van and been driven miles away.

Well it's great that he's chipped but yes, it is a worry. However, if this is the first time he's gone for a bit of an explore then it's not that out of the ordinary. They often go missing for a few days the first time they really venture afar. So do all the posters/leaflets you can, but try not to panic just yet.

Threecouldbefour · 02/10/2020 19:45

Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm trying to balance my expectations between not losing hope completely and being realistic. I hope you are right about him just going off for a rope explore.

I've registered him on The National Pet Register as list and also on Pets Reunited, as well as local Facebook pages. Are there any more websites I should be using?

I'm so sorry. I know how horrible it feels.

I really hope he's back soon.

Have you put the litter tray out? The dirtier the better.

QueenOllie · 02/10/2020 19:55

Dog lost is a good one
Every FB group you can find, usually something like "missing cats in X town" and you'll often find a group of people who deal with missing/lost cats
Next door app if you have it
Vets
Speak to any builders or site management, search anywhere you can, flyer through every door

My clingy glued to me cat went missing for 8 days and turned up on his own

Threecouldbefour · 02/10/2020 21:58

Thank you - I'll look at Dog Lost (assume it deals with cats too!) I have spoken to site management who said they would check empty buildings. Poster is up in their canteen and on site gates.

We don't have a litter tray but I've heard you can empty hoover bag outside. I've also heard that it can attract foxes or other cats but I don't know how true that is?

So sorry to hear this OP. My neighbours cat disappeared and was in an empty office block for a few days during lock down! Have you asked neighbours to check garages and sheds. Are there any buildings he could have got into? Xx

bodgeitandscarper · 04/10/2020 09:53

Animalsearch. Co. UK is another good site. Have you left food out? One of mine was chased off by a fox and seemed to vanish, we put food out each night with a wildlife camera to see who came. It took four and a half months, but our cat was eventually spotted and we managed to trap him, an ex feral and very timid, hence the trap! Is there easy access to your home ie. cat flap if he does comeback?

Threecouldbefour · 04/10/2020 11:49

Thank you so much for those replies. We do have a cat flap - a microchip one. I have been putting food out but think some night cameras might be helpful. I'll look into that today. We have asked neighbours to check their garages and sheds but unless you watch them do it, how do you know? I've put post on National Pet Register and PetsReunited but I'll look at Animal search - thank you.

I feel so sick all the time, not knowing whether he's ok. Our cat is also timid and I don't think he's ever caught anything (he's six months old) so unless he's being fed I don't know what he's eating. He also hates the rain so he must be terrified.

X

I know exactly how you're feeling op, it's horrible worrying about them all the time. It could be something as simple as another cat keeping him out of his territory, especially if he's timid. Keep positive, there's always hope!

bodgeitandscarper · 04/10/2020 12:00

The one we lost was a rubbish hunter too, but it's amazing how resourceful they can be, we honestly thought he'd struggle to survive as he has issues which meant he couldn't climb or jump. He turned up definitely thinner, but he did survive! Fingers crossed you hear good news soon. X

AnneElliott · 04/10/2020 14:17

Go out and call him late at night. One of mine was lost and didn't know how to get back home. She answered to my call and came out from under a car.

The other one was a few streets away and gone for a week. Found via our local Facebook page. She wandered into someone's house and they recognised her from the FB page.

sarahwil1 · 13/10/2020 11:41

Its the worst thing ever when that happens :( We managed to find our lost cat by posting on our Facebook neighbourhood page so defo recommend posting on that if you have one. We have also since got a UBEEQUEE cat tracker so that we can see where she disappears off to -its given us a real peace of mind.

Threecouldbefour · 16/10/2020 17:35

Our cat came home! Thank you so much for the messages. I can't believe I funny update here - I thought I had. He was very thin and starving so assume he had become trapped somewhere. He also had bits all over his face as though he had crawled out of something. We are so happy! Thanks so much for the advice and support! X

Popcornismandatory · 16/10/2020 21:25

So pleased he's home!
I've stopped mine going out when it gets to dusk because I've learned that they are more likely to go AWOL when out at night.
