Rehoming cats

My sister has two cats that are currently living in my garden in a cat house enclosure.

She sadly needs to re home them due to her personal circumstances.

She has tried a few places online with no success.

Does anyone know anywhere in the northwest that's accepting cats for rehoming? They would need to be homed as a pair as they have lived together for the last five years.

I can't take them in as I already have two cats and a dog.

Now it's getting cold I'm just worried about them being outside. They are warm and have an insulated bed area that's enclosed with a door but it's not ideal for them.

I would contact all local rescues and get on a waiting list. There is a website called catchat which will have all those in your area.
Be patient with them as some are purely volunteer run and some with staff are running on reduced numbers with few or no volunteers to help them.

Try millstream rescue. They are based in / near Newton Heath . I have adopted pets from them, they are only a small set up but very good

It's going to break her heart giving them up. But it's going to be six months plus before she's in a position to keep them.

In the enclosure they are in is it realistic to keep them in there for that long? During winter? I've only ever had my two cats. One does not go out by choice. One will go out but not very far. He comes back within 30 seconds of shouting him.

It's wooden, has a roof, caged sides with a high up bed area that we have insulated and it has a cat flap.

It's about 3 metres by two metres

Could anyone else foster them for her? The vets might be able to suggest someone who could help?

Have you got some pictures you could put on the local Facebook group? There might be someone local who'd love to have them

Don’t put them on FB. That’s not a good way to rehome.

I agree with @Wolfiefan please do not put them on face book , or gumtree or anywhere similar at best they will be adopted by someone that just fancys a cat on a whim at worst they will be used for dog fight training or bastards tying rockets' to them.

It’s a long shot but depending on why she needs to foster/rehome them the Cinnamon Trust May help?

So the issue is that she can take them back in six months time but you don't want to leave them in an outdoor enclosure for that long? I would just look after them for another six months. If you really can't bring them inside then that outdoor enclosure sounds ok. You could put heat pads in when it gets really cold. Six months isn't that long and then they can go back to their real home.

Just to be clear, the cat flap gives them access to your garden?

This must be really hard for your sister.

Given you are asking whether it is feasible for them to stay in their current circumstances with you for the next 6 months or so, I’m assuming that if the answer was “yes” that you’d be willing to take it on? So, food, flea treatment, worming, boosters etc. If so, maybe try to approach it another way? Is there maybe a chance of contacting a local rescue (or a National such as Celia Hammond) and explain the circumstances - these cats need a home for x months, their owner desperately wants them back, and that you’d cover the regular costs to ensure that they spend that time in a warm and dry environment, with human interaction (really important) until they are able to be back with your sister?

But also the set up you have sounds ok if it’s only for 6 months. Especially as they don’t seem overly keen on being outside. As a PP said, maybe get a couple of heat mats. And make sure you interact with them as much as you can, not just popping in to drop off food.

And as another PP said, PLEASE don’t try sorting through Facebook, gumtreee etc.

A rescue may well be able to rehome, but they wouldn't be able to offer temporary help. Rescues are short of fosterers as it is - they couldn't spare one for six months as a sort of alternative cattery arrangement. But six months with you looking after them sounds like the best solution. Is there no way you can bring them into your house?

Yes if they will be warm enough outside i am happy to keep them here.

I can't take them on. I have two cats and a dog. The cats and dog are still finding their places together. I can't introduce another two cats into the mix.

No where for more litter trays. The two cats I have, I don't think it's fair to them.

The dog would cope but I don't think my cats would.

If they will be fine outside it's no issue. My sis comes over twice a day to feed them etc etc. We live very close.

Could you use a heat lamp like puppies have? You’re so obviously trying to do your best. Both for these cats, your sister and your own animals. I hope she’s able to take them back one day soon.
