Cat poo - should it smell quite strong?!

My indoor cat’s poo has quite a strong smell - is this normal?! He seems quite regular with his toilet habits, poo’s once a day, but I just saw on google it can be a sign of digestive problems. I hadn’t really thought it of a sign that something was wrong. He eats dry food and is nearly 1.5 years old.

Depends on the food they're eating too. Cat poo smells anyway as its meat based

Cheddar's is horrific. But since cutting out dreemies it does seem to have improved slightly. And she doesn't bury it either.

My cats shit roses NOT Grin.

Mine do the occasional poo that's so odoriferous that I think the smell has a life of it's own. It drifts the length of the living room from the far corner, through the door, across the hallway & ambushes me in the study at it's worst. These are cats who pass their annual MoT with flying colours.

My cats STINK and they love to do one just before im having anyone round. Despite emptying it immediately the stench still wafts around.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2020 09:43

@Plump82 cheddar does that! I don't know how she knows.

My cats poo stinks a ridiculous amount. I live in a fairly large house, his litter tray is in the conservatory which is about as far away from my bedroom as you can get. I’m still woken up by the stench at around 3am every morning when he does his nightly shit. I can’t go back to sleep as the smell is so bad and have to scoop it up and put it in the outside bin then light a candle to get rid of it’s ghost which hangs around for hours if I don’t.

My cat doesn’t bury his pop which makes a huge difference but I can’t understand how people can tolerate being in a house with a cat shit in a litter tray. I don’t know if it’s just because my cat is an absolute stinker or I’ve just got a sensitive nose.

Yeah it’s stinky. My cat has difficulty burying hers as she has a dodgy paw and it can be horrific if we don’t deal with it immediately!

Papergirl1968 · 30/09/2020 10:12

Can’t really smell my two’s poos, unless I’m just used to it. I’d rather deal with 100 cat poos than one dog poo (have recently acquired a dog).
First rule of being a cat though is that you must immediately christen a newly cleaned out litter tray... Grin

It depends what you feed them.
Felix whiskas Lily's kitchen made my cats poo smell so bad it hit me when I opened the front door like a brick round the face.
I've since switched her to renal both dry and wet and all I can smell is flowers when I open the front door.
The difference is astonishing.
