How to make sure cat is drinking enough?

My cat has a dry food diet, I was hoping for some tips on how to make sure a cat drinks enough water? How much should they drink a day? I think he drinks bits here and there each day but he never drinks the whole water bowl!

My two cats definitely drink water here and there. They don’t like water near their food. I see them drink out of the dog water bowl, the bird bath, glasses of our water on the table, dog paddling pool and one of my cats absolutely loves water out of the tap if I make it drip. You can buy this device that constantly moves the water like a fountain which cats prefer but it’s a little expensive. They’ll find water naturally outside as well.

Yes, my cats are exactly the same as PrincessBubbles'. Their own bowl is a last resort.

I get the little pots of cat milk - it’s a treat, so only one a day. But its mainly water.

I also use wet food, and only gove dry at night.

Im having the same issue with one of mine who refuses any type of wet food and im pretty sure is a bit constipated just now. Im planning on getting some cat milk as she also doesnt appear to drink anything from anywhere including her own water bowl and seperate fountain.

Get a fountain, petmate/catmate ones are excellent, filters inexpensive, the ones I have have lasted really well too.

Yes. I got a fountain and they drink loads from it. It was so successful they have two.

I have never seen mine drink water from her dish. She will wolf catmilk but the vet said it was really only for kittens, and very fatty - cat was also getting fatty according to vet, so no more of that, and rationed food for a while! (Thankfully it was DP who got the telling off by the vet!)

We add water to her wet food and mash it up with s fork if it’s warm weather, and I have seen her cheerfully drinking from puddles or the top of the wheelie bin.

I have never, ever, had any cat who drinks anything provided inside. I assume they drink outside, but have never seen them drink anything. This summer we didn't have rain for 6 months, so I don't know what they did. All have lived to good ages, so they must survive somehow.

Haribo has his dry food then immediately has a drink from his water bowl which is a petmate with the fountain turned off. He has some wet food for breakfast.

Same! never ever seen my cat drinks. In or out! He seems healthy though. He is very young so hopefully will not develop kidney issues in future. (I know some cars do).
