Hey everyone - does this look like usual tabby markings ? Pic attached . She has a white belly with black spots . I thought tabby's were more stripy - I wonder if she's got something else mixed in there -little beauty 😻

She is beautiful! Her markings are the Classic tabby pattern. Mine are the stripey kind but also have fat spotted bellies with white patches.

I would say she descends from the Egyptian Mau Cat, or, the Bengal. She's a beauty x

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/09/2020 06:49

Classic tabby, they can be stripey, swirly or slightly spotted but she doesn’t have the ears or proportions of a Bengal.

She is a little beauty though!

'Wild-type' tabbies are mackerel-patterned - stripy. Classic or blotched tabbies have a double copy of a mutated version of the tabby pattern gene. It's the same kind of mutation that gives rise to the 'king cheetah': www.nationalgeographic.com/science/phenomena/2012/09/20/tabby-cat-blotches-king-cheetah-stripes-spots-taqpep/

Thanks everyone , yes I think the mackerel tabby is what I was expecting . We have her sister too who is long hair - another stunner with the cutest white fluff coming out of her ears 😻

She's also a classic tabby. Gorgeous!

I've never had cats but they seemed like the perfect pets for us being a working family with 2 kids -I just love them so much omg I never knew what I was missing 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

They are both beautiful, I'm not surprised they've stolen your heart!

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 11:08

I'm so
Scared of letting them out , not old enough yet but when they are . There are six other cats along the terraced houses where we live 🥺 one of them is a stray that's the size of a dog 😳

The tail belongs to a monkey though :)

What gorgeous kitties!

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 11:11

Thanks 😊 my youngest is autistic / non verbal and they've been great for getting him to interact more . God forbid anything happens to one of them when they go out

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2020 11:33

Can you keep them inside or cat proof a garden area?

maggiethecat · 25/09/2020 11:38

@Beachbodhi - they are beautiful!
Your scratching post has also caught my eye with the little seat on top. Where is it from?

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 11:50

@YetAnotherSpartacus don't know where it's from as it came with them sorry

OP posts:
beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 11:51

@maggiethecat I meant

OP posts:
beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 11:53

@YetAnotherSpartacus no can't keep
Them in it's not practical with the kids - I posted on here a few weeks ago about 'hidden fences' which is a cable that transmits radio frequency -the garden is really big with lots of bushes and flower beds etc so had thought about having this done but general MN consensus was it wasn't a good idea . It doesn't shock them , it's not electric it emits a sound when the get within 3 ft and then vibration at 2 ft to a receiver on cats collar . As for 'catio' this isn't an option for us x

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2020 11:56

Oh, I remember now! Sorry!

maggiethecat · 25/09/2020 12:04

Our tabby loves the one we just got but that seat looks very inviting!

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 12:24

@maggiethecat yes she lives it up there but it's pretty hard , when I put a little cushion on there she just knocks it off 😂
@YetAnotherSpartacus what was your take on the hidden fences ?

SuffolkNgood · 25/09/2020 17:36

Love the beautiful kitties and so glad they are helping with the autism too 💖 my brother is non-verbal and unfortunately he just hates pets, i wish with all my heart he had a little pet friend to interact with!

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 18:06

@SuffolkNgood thanks 😊 he's just the right balance of liking them a lot but not crazy crazy about them

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 25/09/2020 20:32

What are they called? Very sweet

beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 22:40

@EachandEveryone long haired is Freya 😻 and short haired Indie x

OP posts:
beachbodhi · 25/09/2020 22:43

They are so funny literally make me laugh everyday . I grew up with dogs so this is so new to me - if Freya is at the bottom of the stairs and I peek at her and hide -she flies up to the top so were nose to nose when I pop out 😹 if me and my husband are disagreeing about something Indie just fauns all over him so we end up laughing

OP posts:
beachbodhi · 30/09/2020 00:40

Just browsing today and looking at different types of cat and saw this one ! Spit of my Indie -exact same 'marble' markings and being sold as a Bengal cross - guess time will tell coz I imagine they'd be a bit bigger than average , they've both started making funny chirping noises too so I'm excited to see what they'll be like as they grow. 😻😻
