Feliway Friends

Two DTwatCats.

#1 is a lumpen idiot with hypoplasia and some issues with the fundamental laws of gravity. #2 is an aged ball of fluff who was obviously bred for looks, not brains, but in comparison to #1, she's a feline genius, as he appears to be a dog in a cat's slightly defective body.

They get along fine at mealtimes and if it's below 5C outside, when I'd say she tolerates his presence near her as it's tolerate or risk losing her spot on the sofa, but there's generally a demilitarised zone of about two foot between them where she won't growl or hiss at him. He occasionally gets through the metaphorical barbed wire, but he's always expecting a punch in the face - and sometimes gets it.

The damned fool seems to think that she's rather marvellous and wants to be with her, snuggling up with her, rubbing up against her and generally being her best friend. After about the 5th hiss and swipe of the day, though, he gets a little bit irritable and will be a dick to her by looking in her direction or sometimes touching her tail.

I think this serves her right because she was an incomer in the first place before he came along and she then beasted him as a kitten, not realising he was going to grow to at least twice her size. But it's not ideal and had I not been a sucker for a sad story they not both been homeless, I wouldn't have had either; I'd have waited and got two little black kittens, rather than a defective Mackerel and white Tabby and a small, angry, largely ginger sheep.

They have a million different places, escape routes and levels/resources, both are in the peak of health and they're individually, great animals who are very spoiled happy and get along fine at a distance of 4 foot or at food times - the only problem is that he likes her too much and she, well, doesn't. It's like a microcosm of the Social Distancing arguments on MN, just with longer facial hair.

I used some Zooplus points to buy a Feliway Friends (the original never worked for any of mine) and DP plugged it in just behind my head where I sit on the sofa yesterday afternoon.

DTwatCat #1 has been laying with his back against hers on the sofa, snoring happily, for over an hour. And she hasn't slaughtered him for it.

It could be Confirmation Bias. But it seems so coincidental.

Do others think these things actually work? If it does, I'll have them in every room. And where is the cheapest place to get them online? I've not told DP how much it cost, mainly because he went a lovely shade of grey when he saw how much I spend on wanky cat food for her ladyship's benefit. If I need to get another 3 AND refill them, I'm going to need a cheaper place to get them from.

I’ve used the calm spot in treatment from pets at home with brilliant results. Old, cantankerous lady went from swearing at the kittens to being friendly and playing ball
with them. All within an hour or too - two weeks later she is still happily accepting their presence and shares their food bowls. Admittedly the kittens have learnt a bit of oap respect and do no use the oap litter tray or bed.
Might be a cheaper option?
