I feel this is a really stupid question but if I get a health payment plan with my vet then does it cover the actual vet fee for each appointment?

Getting a kitten on sat and we have never had one before so I'm just trying to tick all my boxes off my list.

It covers the consultation fee. Any medication/ procedures are extra. Usually limited to 2 consultations a year. But check the individual policy.

Every practices plan will be slightly different so you need to check with your own vet. Our plan covers the vaccination appointment and one health check six months later, plus all the flea and worm treatment for a year, but as I say every one is different. The vast majority do not cover consult fees when your cat is ill.

Generally just two check ups a year, vaccination and flea and worming products. Ours also gives a small discount for everything else (10% I think it is currently).

It is not an insurance policy and you should still look to get pet insurance even if you have a health plant at the vet.

Thanks so much! Our local vets have quoted for £14 per month for which I thought might be a bit high. Planning on getting insurance also.

Vets will often have a leaflet that has a table comparing costs. Mine covers 2 check ups, worming, flea treatment and annual booster - and it’s clearly laid out how much you save by paying monthly rather than individually for all these. It’s good as it also encourages people to keep up to date with these things.

FYI, my flea treatment also includes injections (twice a year) as an alternative to monthly spot-on treatments. Much nicer experience for me and the cats!
