Heat pad

Before we get closer to winter I'm looking for a small heat pad to put in my cat's igloo-style bed, to encourage her to stay in it rather than spending her days in the garden. I don't trust Amazon reviews; can anyone recommend one, please?

I have the petnap heated bed (leopard print, £45.99)
I am thinking of buying an igloo bed and using just the pad underneath it.
Cat loves the bed but as it's getting colder I'm thinking it won't be enough (he's elderly and feels the cold)
I know it's not what you asked, but I'm confident enough to leave it on overnight and it doesn't overheat.
I check it for signs of damage daily, because I'm neurotic about fire.
Hope you find something suitable.

If you buy the plug in type (as opposed to the heat in a microwave type) then don't buy from Amazon. Buy from a proper, UK-based pet supplies site as then the European safety marks will a) exist b)be genuine.

People's cats/kittens have been killed by dodgy ones catching fire.

Oh my goodness I thought i was being an overprotective new cat mummy as I literally just logged in to see if anyone had advice about keeping my kittens warm.....is that a thing or will they be fine. Are heat pads just for older cats. Do kittens need more than a bed or blanket?

thecatneuterer · 07/09/2020 14:53

Well all cats do seem to enjoy a heated bed. Or you could go a step further, like I did, and have underfloor heating installed in the kitchen (or wherever) cover the floor in cat beds and leave the heating switched on whenever it's cold :)

TCN your setup sounds perfectSmile

Mumdiva99 · 07/09/2020 15:02

@thecatneuterer do not mention that option to my husband....he would love that. He's always cold. Lol.

I've got the pet remedy one. My two use it a bit but I think it's a bit hot for them.

This is NASA tech (apparently) that reflects the cat's heat back at them. Mine frequently have to get off because they are too hot on it.

@thecatneuterer you'll give all the inmates of the litter tray ideas.

Mine seem happy enough to Knick my hot water bottle and love the electric blanket going on. One click and in they troop to bed...... I get the edge and little bit of duvet with a pillow if they are feeling generous.

I bought my kittens hot water bottles. Didnt use boiling water or anything and now on the odd occasion when im freezing myself if i make a hot water bottle they are ALL over me!!

nettie434 · 07/09/2020 23:10

I bought this for a friend's cat when he was recuperating:

fetch.co.uk/petlife-hottie-heat-pad-pet-blanket-328966011

It heats up in the microwave.

Thank you very much for all the recommendations. The cat is semi-feral and needs some encouragement to stay indoors instead of lurking under a bush in the cold wet garden, so I hope she'll be warmer and dryer this year.

Have you got an outside cat house? We got one from home and roast and carpeted it and cats seem to love it.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 09/09/2020 11:26

I decided against a cheapo unverified Amazon one and got this: www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pet-remedy-low-voltage-heat-pad-%28online-only%29
Although it is out of stock. It is not particularly warm as very ill pets cannot move away from the heat.

I recommend a hot water bottle and a separate ‘self heating’ (ie reflecting) fluffy mat.
