I have just adopted 2 kittens and unfortunately they have lots of fleas. I have bathed them and got a lot off them.

I have been combing them but there still seem to be a fair few fleas.

Can any advise when I should bathe them again please?

The vet can sell you a spray to kill the fleas but you can bath them again & drown the fleas.

Have you got indorex spray for house?. It kills flea eggs and larvae but the kittens mustn’t be in the room when you spray it.

Why are you bathing them?

You need frontline or the other one. Go to the vets or you might get it from Pets at home these days.

It will kill them all.

Thanks fluffy, I'm taking them to the vets tomorrow so hopefully they have something safe.

@GreyishDays Because they are 8 weeks old and I just got them today.
I didn't know you could get flea stuff for them when they are so young.

Vet here. Bathing does not kill fleas unfortunately, but combing them out today will help to limit how many bites they get, as the blood loss can cause anaemia in young kittens.

Your vet will give you effective treatment for them. You will need to treat any other cats or dogs that live in house also. Spraying house with Indorex as a PP suggested, will be important also. Continue monthly flea treatment after this.

Have they been wormed? Ask your vet about this tomorrow.

@LittleCabbage

I was worried about anemia, the water was red when I bathed them. I think I got at least 30 fleas of each of them. They seem very bright and happy other than the fleas.

Yes they are getting the full treatment, flea, worm microchip and spay/neuter.

My older cat had his flea spot on on 13th August so a few more days yet.

I have indorexed the whole house about 2 weeks ago and have just ordered some more. Thank you

You can buy spot on stuff suitable for kittens. Their mother obviously had some fleas which she passed on to the kittens. Spot on once a month is great and there are cheaper options if you look online. Keep an eye out for worms because fleas carry the larvae of tape worms.

LittleCabbage · 06/09/2020 20:30

Sounds like you have everything under control Smile

Whatamesssss · 06/09/2020 20:33

Thanks everyone. I will report back after vet visit.
and put up pictures.

They had their vet check up and apart from the fleas they are in good health. Grin

The vet did say their gums were a bit pale so the fleas have affected them. They got their spot on and their worming tablets. I was a bit surprised they did both at the same time but I suppose they know what they are doing. So relieved.

Now for inoculations and lots of boil washing.

Here is the obligatory picture, I know they don't look it, but they are teeny tiny.

Cute kittens. We also got 2 that came with fleas. After treating them we have been brushing them gently with a flea comb. Xxx

Whatamesssss · 07/09/2020 15:10

I combed them loads yesterday, hopefully the treatment the vet did will kill them now. I am also boil washing their bedding every days for a few days and indorexing their room (when their not in it). I hope this is enough to get rid of them, I have never seen so many fleas.
