How do you pin your cat down to do anything to?

Toots has poo attached to her back end

She’s quite fluffy so it needs cutting away rather than just a small tug.

I’ve tried once and I have a lovely scratch on my arm already so that was fun.

I can’t cattito her as she seems to manage to get her way out anyway and she fights like a wildcat if you try to do something she doesn’t like!!

Help

Get them lying on a towel, then sausage roll them.

Be prepared for a seriously pissed off puss.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2020 19:14

Yeah that’s the cattito.

It doesn’t work with her plus I need to get to her back end which is hard in cattito mode

I used to drop a towel over the top of cat and then scoop up and wrap.

Sometimes I got hurt but mostly the claws were trimmed etc with just a bit of growling.

Infullbloom · 05/09/2020 19:17

For the bum end I'd get her on a table, wrap her in a big bath towel and hold her rugby style under your arm quite firmly with head facing to the back obviously. Much easier with someone else to do the cutting though.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2020 19:19

I think I’ll have to wait for dh to get home and for him to pin and me to trim

Good job really that in 4 years this is only the 2nd time I’ve had to do something like this

Oh and swiftness is key, you have to all of the above in 0.3 seconds to stand any chance of success Grin.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2020 19:22

I tried earlier in the bathroom and one of the lovely dc opened the door Angry

you need another person to help... and a variation on the wrap...

normally you leave the head out but it's the other end...ideally you want to restrain the back paws so if you can pre fold the cat into a sitting position, place bottom/ankles on edge of towel in centre and facing in, then bring the towel tightly up and around ...wrap as usual leaving tail and dangleberry area easily accessible

otherwise...will distracting help...chicken and kissing at front end, rubber gloves and snippy scissors at the other?

or stealth snipping when dozing?

Good luck everyone!

other person needs to retain a firm grip and keep cat under arm...maybe upside down...some cats will give up, but some will not!

sleepyhead · 05/09/2020 19:25

God yeah, no false starts. Ours hated going in her carrier so we'd have one shot at the drop-scoop-in or she'd be somewhere completely inaccessible within a nanosecond.

Obviously if we were stupid enough to let her see the carrier then we wouldnt get that one chance.

Lurkingforawhile · 05/09/2020 19:26

Scruff of the neck - I watched the vet do it and it's the quickest way to do it. Ideally at about was it height (like on furniture) and use your body to stop them moving backwards. Good luck

Dh is home....and toots has legged it outdoors Grin

Fucking cat

I just grab them and hold gently by the shoulders. (Note. Cheddar has never ever scratched in anger and Snorg is also exceptionally placid) they are both very chilled out so I can do anything.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2020 20:05

Usually bum issues involve a trip the the vets for an urgent bath.

BlueBoar · 05/09/2020 20:25

I trap scar in the shower (floor to ceiling door) and wrap in a towel with head under my arm but still he lives up to his name with back claws. Live alone and DS is far too “you’re hurting him” to be useful...

Toilenstripes · 05/09/2020 20:41

Wait until she’s asleep. Be determined. DH holds up her tail and you snip. Dial 999.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2020 22:00

We’ve had to give up for tonight

We (me and dh got her in the bathroom) just about to scruff her when someone else opened the goddamn door. She flew out there so quick I’m sure she left an outline of herself behind

She then got herself firmly behind the sofa

Wait till she’s asleep and do things real quick...

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 06/09/2020 00:14

As there are 2 of you to do it, take a bag for life and cut a large hole to allow plenty of space for the head and 4 smaller holes for the paws and another larger hole for bum access, place on a surface and lift cat onto the bag while giving treats, one person lifts the bag around the cat while making sure that the head has plenty of room and helping get the paws thru, the bag is being suspended by the holder as this happens so bag is containing the cat in air so paws can't get at you, you might need to ease the tail out of the way and do the trimming and lower the cat to the floor and watch her run, she will probably be pissed off anyway but it will be done by then.

FromTheAllotment · 06/09/2020 00:39

From kneeling behind your cat, hold her over the shoulders, two fingers behind the shoulders and the rest in front. Use that to stop her squirming forwards/backwards. You need to have a fair bit of pressure on her back, not squashing her, but enough so she’s low to the ground and can’t roll/turn. Your DH will have to put up with you being in the way of her back end, because if any part of you moves too near the front where the claws are, it will get scratched. Similarly don’t get in range of the back feet, which in my experience tend to stay fairly still because she wants to push off and get away with them, but don’t test that. Once finished, don’t linger for a stroke and comfort, let go like she’s on fucking fire.

Tried and tested technique I have used on a number of felines and it’s worked well!

We have to trim out fluffy boys back end. He has a camping chair as his bed!! Once he is sleeping and comfy he sort of rolls onto his back and then I get someone to stroke his chin and I try and attack with scissors.
